Favorite Fish Died - Now Partner Is Dying Too? :(

Did a 50% water change last night with another dose of ParaGuard. Today the hole is almost closed. The circumference of it has turned white again with a small red streak in the inside, the signs of healing. The upper part of her body still looks like it may turn into another lesion, but no...

Favorite Fish Died - Now Partner Is Dying Too? :(

Well I gave her another paraguard bath last night for an hour, and when I went to drain the water I noticed almost like a 'scab' of scales on the bottom. Don't know if that was good or bad. The hole looks cleaner and lighter, but now it looks like another one is starting just above the first...

Favorite Fish Died - Now Partner Is Dying Too? :(

That was my biggest wonder - fungal or bacterial. I'm in the States so I can get it, just ordered it thankfully. Only thing that sucks is its going to take 5-7 business days since they didn't have it Amazon Prime :/ Hopefully it'll work, in the mean time I'll stay with paraguard til it shows up...

Favorite Fish Died - Now Partner Is Dying Too? :(

Forgot to add, Angelfish now has a clear but white discoloration on all fins - not raised, not cottony, not ick. The only way I can describe it is, its like Scotch tape? The normal, christmas present type that is slightly white. But she did freak out like a dog when I pulled her food jar out...

Favorite Fish Died - Now Partner Is Dying Too? :(

Unfortunately I can't isolate her - The only empty tank I have is a 5 gallon which I did use to give her the bath, but she couldn't move the whole time :/   The 20 gallon is *sigh* quarantining new baby angelfish from the same parents as her. Kinda put the cart before the house, but I really...

Favorite Fish Died - Now Partner Is Dying Too? :(

Thank you, I did some research and seems dropsy causes raised scales and can be fatal pretty quick. :/ I really don't know what else so I'll keep playing Clue until I find out     But I think I'll use this as my update journal incase anyone else has this problem.   Yesterday I gave her a 1 hour...

Good Substrate For A Planted Aquarium?

If you mean normal sand as in playsand, yeah I've used that too lol Just rinse it really well. I would recommend dosing liquid ferts then, and root tabs.  daizeUK, not to change the subject, but do you use anything special to hold down your plants? My cories dig mine up regardless of how far...

Good Substrate For A Planted Aquarium?

I use Seachem Onix Sand. My tank is heavily planted, but I also dose liquids and have Seachem root tabs under my swords and vals. No Co2. Plants are thriving. I have an old picture somewhere in my posts, but that was like 8 months ago. My tank is covered now, so you can see how it looks lol I...

    Jumping In The Deep End!

Those all sound like good ideas. Im going to check my lfs out (after it finally stops snowing) and see what shipments they have available. I remember seeing a couple rams in the back area, Ill have to check them out also and see what kind they are. I know my options are limited due to tank size...

    Jumping In The Deep End!

I've thought about it - however I can't heat my tank to the required amount due to my corydoras. The tank sits at around 75-76 F right now, with a constant pH of 7.6, and I heard they like 5-6 :/ They are beautiful though!

    Jumping In The Deep End!

Ok, maybe its not really a 'deep end' - but its new territory for me :) I had plans to start a cichlid only take, but due to increase in work related activities, I ended up scratching the idea of having another tank! Maybe after college... hmmm.. Anyway, now I am left with my good ol' 45 gallon...

    White Covered Hole In Tail

Thank you - I did seperate him, but I think the stress killed him in his weakened state. RIP Buzz :(

    White Covered Hole In Tail

My honey gourami has a hole in his tail. Like, I can see the other side of the aquarium through it. It started off as a white dot, almost like ich but only in the one spot. It kept growing and started to look like pimple. The other side of his tail wasn't affected until it started to get bigger...

    Growth At A Stand Still?

    Growth At A Stand Still?

So my tank has hit a standstill in growth. I rescaped it about 2 months ago, and about a month later it stopped blooming. Any ideas? I dose according to the seachems beginners guide, since im not an expert, and I have 39wattx2 T5HO about 2-3 inches off the open top surface. (45 gallon - Its...

    Overstocked 45?

lol toastie - sorry, Im pretty much married to my fish/plants, and then my husband    and thanks for the info guppy. Ill keep my eye on them. I was worried about the crowding along the bottom, but my cories seem to love it. They all - and I mean all - school together all day when the lights are...

    Overstocked 45?

I don't want to breed them - I have to much studying and clinicals to worry about baby fish, care, the extra water changes, rehoming, etc.. :(

    Overstocked 45?

Well I got them together when they were dime sized, and they havent left each others side yet so Im thinking they are. Its my first time with angelfish so I dont know if thats what it means while they are so young. I heard not to trust that site but havent really heard why except the answer you...

    Overstocked 45?

I currently have 2 juvenille angelfish, 7 false juliee corys, and 11 panda cories, and a few (about 8) yellow shrimp.   I rehomed a couple fish per others advise (the bristlenose and rainbow shark) and ended up adding to the corys school.   According to Reference to very iffy fish-advice site...

Can You Id These Eggs? Catfish?

Can the angels really have spawned already? My ma and pa LFS has a beauttiiiffuull breeding pair of marble angelfish and I have been on the waiting list for months waiting for their next spawn and their babies to be old enough to be sold, and I literally just got the call like last week or two...

Can You Id These Eggs? Catfish?

Hey guys, long story short I was just getting ready to plant new plants and turned over my driftwood to spot these two little guys. I have no idea what sort of eggs these are, im not trying to breed anything?  lol the only thing I can think of is my false juliee (sp?) corydoras because the...

Thank you snazzy, that was awesome! Can I ask another question quick without starting a new thread? You sound like you would know. I have a 24-inch 17 watt T8 bulb on my 45 right now. It came with the aquarium. If your wondering, here it is...

New To Planted Tank.. Fertilizers? Please Help?

I have sand substrate for my corydoras, and since Im a beginner I figured if I killed these plants since they are for beginners, then I am just not cut out for plants :( but they are still thriving this last week! Some of the val tips have melted off, but I trimmed them last night and noticed...

New To Planted Tank.. Fertilizers? Please Help?

Hey guys, so I just ordered some plants from Bama Plants - that guy is awesome. Anyway, I need help on what to 'feed' them? I have pretty much low light. I was hoping to get some Seachem products, but there are soooo many I am at a loss! I have plants mixed with fish. Tank is cycled. What...

    45 Gallon Stocking With Angelfish

I completely agree. I like balanced tanks, rather than the multiples. I went to my LFS (Jims Aquarium in Kenosha WI if anyone is near the area - they are awesome!!!) and fell in love with some Odessa Barbs. I originally went in there to check out tetras, but Jims wife assured me they would be ok...

    45 Gallon Stocking With Angelfish

That is awesome! I was going to do 2 schools and one angelfish, but you think one large school of tetras (possibly rummy nose) and two angelfish would be ok for the tank size?

    45 Gallon Stocking With Angelfish

Ive read many things that said the same thing as you said, but one day they woke up and no neons, I don't want to sacrifice poor fish with the risk lol

    45 Gallon Stocking With Angelfish

    45 Gallon Stocking With Angelfish

I have nooo idea what shark you are talking about, but a rainbow shark will not outgrow a 4 foot long tank. Bala sharks, yes.  47-48" x 13 x 21 but I am only filling it up to about 19" give or take at the moment due it being heavily planted in the future (lighting, etc..) opps that was the 55...

    45 Gallon Stocking With Angelfish

Hey guys, I'm back! I have currently decided to turn my 55 gallon into a cichlid tank and display in my living room. I just bought a 45 gallon and a 10 gallon and did some rearranging, moving my filter from the 55 to the 45 and rehomed my post natal platy and her fry. Anyway, I heard some bad...

Dead Panda Cory, Now Sick Fish? Beginners Mistake?

Ok. Well since I started Tetra Parasite Guard, I figured Im going to try it for the full length. If the fins start healing, Ill add more Indian Almond leaves to help condition the fish and stop another other treatments, and keep my Seachems products close incase of any more outbreaks. Thanks.

Dead Panda Cory, Now Sick Fish? Beginners Mistake?

Do you think something can be going wrong with good water perimeters? I have been checking it every night (Ammonia/NitrIte 0; Nitrate: 10) I have been doing small water changes daily (about 10-15%) to keep Nitrate low just incase anything else is going on. All my False Juliees are doing great...

Dead Panda Cory, Now Sick Fish? Beginners Mistake?

I don't use Melafix because I heard so many bad reviews, so I instead have Seachems Paraguard I have been treating. Unfortunelty, the panda cory and ANOTHER adult panda passed away! I have been doing 50% water changes every night before bed so I can treat it with a full dose of Paraguard...
