I'm 98% sure that my household is not using the provided softener. I have asked my father multiple times and checked the plumbing and there is no indication of an in-line softener or an external softener. However, I may be wrong.

I used "API Test Strips 5 in 1: pH - NO^2 - NO^3 - KH - GH"

I'm pretty sure..I removed it entirely.

I turned off the softener, and then tested it. So it was through the water company.

I went out and purchased a gh/kh/ph test kit and thats what the tap water read as. The previous numbers came from my water company.

So my general hardness is 30ppm and my carbonate hardness is 45ppm.

I shaked it for about 3 minutes, very hard if that counts haha.

I do agree that inert gravels and sand work very well for growing plants too. I haven't personally succeeded with playsand, but I didn't know what I was doing either. As long as your plants have the key requirements, they'll grow: nutrients, light, and atleast suboptimal water conditions.

So I waited a few minutes, until all the bubbles were gone, and I tested the pH. I got 7.2, then I let it sit for about 15 minutes and I got 7.3, then 7.2 again. So 7.2-7.3 is a more exact range.

Okay, I'll test the pH more accurately.

Apparently, (this isn't exact) but in my area it ranges from 8gpg-15gpg, although I don't believe that's the case for my household as my tap water tastes very similar to rainwater (which is inherently soft) but I'm not quite sure. Maybe my household as a water softener or something, as 15gpg is...

I haven't had experience with Seachem Fluorite, but from what I've heard, (friends and such) is that while it looks nice, and cost isn't much of an issue, they've encountered magnetic pieces that scratched the glass, not only that, but it has few nutrients.
