Urgent help: my fishes are dying day by day

I suspect it's the bore water. Do you use the bore water for everything including cooking, or cooking and drinking come from a different source? I'd remove a large volume of water, say 75%, and replace it with municipal water. That could mean a (long) trip to your old house to fetch the water.

    Unlevel tank worth keeping?

I think the floor is sloping to one side. You can check by filling a glass with water and place it on the floor. If it looks like this then it's the floor. It's not uncommon for basement floors to slope to one side for drainage purpose.

    1. The cheapest API liquid test kit I can buy costs $65. Plus between $10 - $15 shipping if you can't do the old fashioned pick up from the store. 2 & 3. I responded to these in your other thread, so I'll leave it at that. 4. I'm not aware of anyone in Australia who uses Dr Tim's (I'm not saying...

    tank lighting failure...

From your description, your light switch has 3 positions, Off, On with blue light only, and On with blue + white + red. The blue only is considered by some as Moonlight. But the moon doesn't emit blue light, and the real moonlight is never bright enough to see fish in the water anyway, so it's...

    48 Gallon (35x18x18) Filtration Help

I don't keep Pseudotropheus saulosi, but 1 male and 4 females sounds good to me. If you have 2 males you need to provide more space as each male needs its own territory. Many people here have male only Malawi tanks, and it's overstocked to spread the aggression. It doesn't reduce the...

Can an old air pump make water DIRTIER?

What happens if you run the pump with a hose, but do not connect it to the cartridge? Does it pump out particles? If not, then the cartridge is the problem.

    Lighting suggestions

Just thought I should mention this. For the majority of these lights which have a timer, a problem is that when you have a power outage you’ll lose the time. It doesn’t reset at 0:00 when the power is restored. So if the outage is during the day when the light is normally on, and the power is...

    48 Gallon (35x18x18) Filtration Help

Many people change 50% water once a week, but 10 saulosi in a 36" you may be pushing it. Keep an eye on nitrate, if it’s higher than 20ppm you need to remove more water. I think you need a longer tank if you’re going to keep 10, especially if you have more than one male. I keep Electric Yellow...

    48 Gallon (35x18x18) Filtration Help

I have a 48x18x18 and 7 cichlids in it, each one is about 3”. The filter is a Tydal 75 HOB. The cichlids dig and stir up the sand substrate, and the detritus gets collected by the HOB, so I have no need to vacuum it. Over filtering doesn’t reduce the nitrate level, so I don’t know what it’ll...

    Lighting suggestions

If you get a Nicrew or a Hygger and set it to daylight colour you don't need to worry about the spectrum. You can vary the light intensity from around 10% to 100%, think of it as sunlight in the early morning, midday or late afternoon. Mine are set to around 70% and 80% maximum. For low light...

10 gallon tank heaters for Betta. Suggestions?

It depends on the room temperature, if it’s warm you only need a low wattage heater, if it’s cold a larger one is required. A low wattage in a cold room and is struggling to keep up won’t do much good. Get an electronic that has overheat cut off, there's a much better chance of not overheating.

10 gallon tank heaters for Betta. Suggestions?

75F is warm enough for the bettas. Be careful with the stick on thermometers though as they are not always accurate. Have you looked at Eheim heaters? I'd get a 50W or 100W for a 10 gallon.

How should I cycle my tank? I need to do it fast!

You don’t want to move the old filter to the new 29 gallon tank because you have a new filter. But are you OK to move the old filter to the new tank for 2 or 3 weeks while placing the new filter in the 10 gallon during that time. You can swap the filters after a few weeks. That way you’ll do...

Betta got sick suddenly and seems to be getting worse

A photo / video will help us understand the problem, but from your description it seems like he can’t be helped. How long have you had the betta? Despite what you hear that bettas live up to 5 years, you’ll be lucky if you get past 2 years for fancy bettas. Old bettas go downhill very quickly...

    Aquarium light suggestions

These are the basic lights (link below), but there’s no guarantee that they won’t break. You’ll probably need the 120cm, or 90cm if you have glass covers on top of the tank. The light comes in 2 parts, the light itself and the cable with the plug and a black box. The black box is the...

    Glow betta bent spine

As you have a good water changing routine but the fish are still infected, the next step would be to treat them. That said, I have not been very successful with treatment. Both your fish are in the same tank and they are both infected, so it makes sense to treat them where they are now. I can’t...

    Moving tank

It’s difficult to say without a pic of your tank to see how much hardscape you have in it. But I guess your 60L tank is roughly 60cm long x 30cm wide, so is quite a short tank. I’m comfortable leaving sand, small rocks and drift wood in a 60cm, but of course it’s safest to remove all the heavy...

    Glow betta bent spine

From what I can see, they have fungal infection on the fins and bacterial infection on their bodies, usually caused by poor water conditions. I understand the advice against keeping fish in a small tank, but if that’s the only tank I have (35cm x 35 x 35), I’ll have 4 sparkling gouramis in it. Crack in new tank- please answer ASAP

I’d set up the tank with substrate and plants the way I’d like it to finally look, then add the rocks which will only be there temporarily. The rocks covered with slime and dirt may make the water cloudy, so I’d run the filter for a day or 2 to clear it up before adding a few fish, let them...

Crack in new tank- please answer ASAP

The tanks are locally made, no brand. The tank in the link below probably suits your stand better, being 1220mm x 355mm base. It’s $129, but you’ll also need to get a polystyrene sheet to support the tank, and cover glasses which will add another $25 - $30. You’ll note that this store doesn’t...

Crack in new tank- please answer ASAP

It makes no difference if the patch is rectangular or L-shape. The patch will stop the leak or prevent the leak - if it hasn’t leaked yet, but I don’t think it will restore the structural integrity of the tank to the original un-cracked condition. It might, if the acrylic has similar strength /...

    Would you buy this?

As I understand it, the OP pumps the water from his tank to the sink. Unless the sink is lower than the water level in the tank, head is applicable here and it won't flow at max capacity.

    Would you buy this?

Many pump manufacturers provide several flow rates for their pumps, because how fast they can pump depend on the difference in height between where the water is pumped from (your fish tank, in this case) and the height of the disposal point (the height of your sink ). In the image below, the...

Concerned About White Stringy Feces in My Aquarium

It’s possible that the 2 fish were adversely affected by the treatment. The praziquantel med readily available here is made by Blue Planet, and it’s quite potent. Sick Betta. Will he fully recover?

The fish is very blurry so can’t tell what the problem is. By the look of the gunk attached to the heater, the HOB and what looks like a box filter, the water condition could be a contributing factor. You may have zero ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, but these tests do not give any indication of...

You can run both filters for a few weeks as you mentioned, although that's not really necessary as the tank is well planted and with driftwood pieces. With your Fluval U2, you can run it without the black carbon pads. That will reduce the running cost and the cleaning frequency. I have the U3...
