Drape fin barbs and Odessa barbs

Totally agreed. That’s why it’s important to not take care sheets and general online information as gospel and seek out people with direct experience. That’s also why I posted about the fish in multiple places, since gourami may exhibit different types of aggression than barbs and in different...

Drape fin barbs and Odessa barbs

I’ve decided to reduce the 75 stock list and remove both Odessa and Drape fin barbs from the final plan. I have decided to replace them with a group of 10 Pentazona barbs. These will fit better with the gouramis and overall aesthetic I have in mind. With the chili barbs, green kuboti, and blue...

Drape fin barbs and Odessa barbs

Thank you for that! I do like the 6 banded barbs. I’d replace both barbs with a rainbow shark, if he wouldn’t brutalize glass cats. Thankfully, the tank is still empty and I’m waiting on substrate and hardscape to arrive, then I’ll have to save for the massive plant order. I have some time to...

    Azolla filiculoides

Some positives about them is that they don’t have invasive roots, they are easier to contain than duckweed, and they are excellent sources of denitrification. Ricciocarpus natans is a floating liverwort that has similar attributes. Both of them can spread quickly, but neither cause the trouble...

    Safe T Sorb #7941

There are many posts online, including from Diana Walstad, herself, about the use of Safe T Sorb and similar products as components of a planted tank substrate. One obstacle with the use of these substrates is that the ability of them to attract and bind minerals from the water can be dangerous...

Drape fin barbs and Odessa barbs

I keep reading conflicting accounts about the Odessa. Now, after reading your linked article, I wonder if they may be too much for the drape fin barbs. I have no experience with barbs outside of cherry, rosy, and tigers. Most sources are indicating more fish makes for less aggression. I could...

    Pearls in a 75

I plan to follow that advice, even introducing the gouramis last, as the largest fish in the aquarium. Lots of articles about them living in groups of 6 or more, but just as many stating issues with aggressive pearls in a group setting.

Drape fin barbs and Odessa barbs

Thank you for your input and the link. I didn’t notice the various groupings of sub forums when I first posted and figured it was best to post about the individual fish, in their respective groups and realized I couldn’t delete the original thread.

Drape fin barbs and Odessa barbs

I am hoping to add these 2 to a 75 gallon, with a group of Pearl gourami as the centerpiece. I was wondering if groups of 3 males and 5 females would work well and if they would would be peaceful towards one another. I plan to have dense plantings and driftwood, as well as few species of nano...

    Pearls in a 75

I’m looking to keep a group of pearl gouramis as the centerpiece fish in a 75gallon community, with small rasboras and a couple smaller/not too boisterous barbs. I am hoping to keep 3 males and 5 females. Would this work out or should I consider 2 males and 6 females instead? I want good color...

    No drum roll needed

I’ve been keeping tropical plants, carnivorous, woodland, and exotic plants, as well as reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and fish for 30 years or so. I had not kept an aquarium for around 20 years until 18 months about. I’ve also not indulged in more than my plant addiction, since moving to...

Recommended sexing ratios for 3 types of fish

Hi all, Not new to aquariums, but I am just getting back in after over 20 years away. I am currently building a 75 gallon SE Asian community and have had a Florida native tank and South American tank, both 29 gallons, dirted, and set up for about a year. I would like a group of 8 pearl...
