    My current six tank setups

So annoying. When did you order? It's a shame because they're good quality tanks, when you can actually get your hands on them!

    Alternative Nitrate Reduction Method$

Presumably one option for pothos the individual user is concerned about toxicity of roots (or aesthetically doesn't want roots in tank) would be either an external hang-on breeding box (one of the ones which uses an air pump to draw in water and then spits it back out to the main tank) or a hang...

    My current six tank setups

Thank you! The Boesemanis are regular (purchased from my local Maidenhead Aquatics). If I was ever to redo that tank, I think I'd make it a rainbowfish exclusive tank, with a larger group of Boesmanis and a group of Blehers. In terms of tank builders, just to be clear I'm talking about NACD...

    My current six tank setups

Hi guys, Haven't done this before but thought I'd post my current tank setups. Apologies for the quality of photos/reflections. Taken just before dawn, room lights off, blinds closed and tank lights on and still have reflections... Anyhow! Tank #1: Angelfish community in my...

Running lights front to back on a tank

Thanks for the detailed reply. Yes, the longest Aquasky "arms" are 145cm, so don't come close to the length of the tank and the actual light strip element of those are only 115cm, so about 60% of the length of the tank. Think I'll opt for two (shorter) lights and run them lengthways. Duly noted...

Running lights front to back on a tank

Does anyone have any experience of running multiple lights front to back across an aquarium, as opposed to lengthways? I have a custom size tank currently being built, at 179cm length, 61cm depth, 70cm height (total volume 764l/202 US gallons). I've been struggling to find lights that stretch...

Questions about swapping filter from cycled tank to new tank to start the recycling process..

It should be fine, provided the new tank isn't fully stocked straight away and the main tank isn't fully stocked. If you have two filters on a tank, it doesn't just double the amount of nitrifying bacteria. It won't be precise of course but the amount of bacteria will level out at...

API Aqua Essential and Nitrate Reduction

Incidentally, a previously healthy looking ember tetra died in that tank yesterday. It may well be that it was his time as it were, and I have nothing to link it to the use of the Aqua Essential, but given the timing I thought it worth mentioning for completeness.

API Aqua Essential and Nitrate Reduction

And I know it looks like there's a difference within a couple of hours re the first two photos, but that's a lighting thing for the photo. I tested them in the same lighting when I took the measurements but had to step outside when I took the second photo.

API Aqua Essential and Nitrate Reduction

So, my experience thus far is that it does almost nothing re nitrates. Due to time restrains (3 month old baby has no interest in my experiments), I haven't had a chance to run this on a bucket of tap water, but tested with a 140l tank with average stocking. Saturday Morning: Tested before...

API Aqua Essential and Nitrate Reduction

Thanks both. Largely where my thoughts had taken me I think. I did see that it referred to "binding" nitrate, although the FAQ referred to removal, and I was equally baffled by the suggestion of binding nitrate to be removed by the biological filter. I've ordered a small bottle as for £6 it's...

API Aqua Essential and Nitrate Reduction

Does anyone have any experience of the relatively new API Aqua Essential, in particular its claims of reducing nitrate? It seems to be their answer to Seachem Prime, as an all in one dechlorinator and ammonia/nitrite "detoxifier" but with the added claim of actually "removing" nitrates. My tap...

White Growths on Venezuelan Orange Corydoras

White Growths on Venezuelan Orange Corydoras

Hi all, Over the last few weeks on of my Venezuelan orange corys has developed white growths, first on both sides and now lately on the top. A couple of pictures below. He seems happy enough, swimming and eating fine. The other 7 in the tank show nothing similar. Any ideas? Thanks. Matt...

Tank Temp in Heat Wave - Best to Just Leave Things Be?

Tank Temp in Heat Wave - Best to Just Leave Things Be?

Thanks. Yes, looks like I'm best to just leave them be! Those type aren't widely available here I'm afraid and wouldn't work in my house I don't think. They require windows that either lower or raise, which I don't have in two of the rooms with fish (one has wall length/height patio doors only...

Tank Temp in Heat Wave - Best to Just Leave Things Be?

We're having something of a heatwave here in London and very few houses in the UK have aircon (mind does not!). I have fans running in my three "fish rooms" but the room temp is still sitting at 27c in the rooms with tetras, gouramis, bettas and my ranchu goldfish, with tank temps also sitting...

Fluval Roma 240 filter advice ?

The newer models of the Fluval Roma come with Bluetooth LED lights (a slightly custom version of the AquaSky) installed. Have done for a year or so. My Roma 240 arrived yesterday and the lights work great, fully customisable and programmable through the app. I'd maybe hold fire on replacing...
