Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

Yeah, Erythromycin jumped out of a Google search. Typical US website stuff. I couldn't reply yesterday as an another more immediate event took place when my wife had a nasty fall and was in sever pain. So I spent the rest of the day tripping between hospitals for scans and x-rays. No broken...

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

Totally agree with the concept and will do all I can to go along with it but I still don't have an answer on what the problem is. I can't get a decent image to show but pausing the video clip should give an idea at least. Thinking ahead, and applying as much commonsens as possible to it, as the...

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

Sorry to bump guys but this is getting even worse. I notice another tank with Emperor and Glowlight Tetra also showing signs of infection.

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

Nothing added lately that could have brought it on. The green neons were added around 3 weeks ago. The other neon in a separate tank has been in it for months. Only thin added there over the last few weeks has been 4 bumblebee gobies a week ago but they look fine. I tend to dabble into tanks, ie...

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

I added salt yesterday whilst doing a large water change. I checked in this morning and as always the green neons were in among the roots of plants which are the normal resting places. When they appeared once the lights were on, I noticed an immediate problem. I don't think it's the same fish as...

    Apple v Pear

The new culture is doing fine in the cafetiere. Loads of new very small eels. They must be OK with pears as well then. Anyway, as I've mentioned on another thread somewhere vinegar eels are smaller than baby brine shrimp so are an ideal starter for newly hatched fry. They are also a damn sight...

    Introduction

Welcome from Geordieland. I'm sure you'll learn a lot from reading the posts and the members are always very helpful. Even to the extent that they aren't afraid to let you know if they think you're making a mess of things. My advice is to keep up on the research and ask lots of questions about...

Is this stocking good? Not sure what forum to put this in.

Well that's somewhat better (Betta?). I do still think there's way too many bottom feeders though. Not only are they competing for food, they also have a need to shelter. Even in a heavily planted tank they'll find it hard to keep their distance from the others. I had Sterbai in a tank (the...

    Algae or mold?

It's biofilm. I have it myself on newly introduced wood. The excess nutrients leeching out of the wood cause it. It doesn't look nice but it can be rubbed off, or left for the shrimp to eat. My Oto's love it. Nothing to worry about.

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

I guess it's going to be salt. However, what sort of dose and will it affect the badis badis and king kong shrimp. EDIT Oh sugar. I just remembered I have assassin snails too, apart from the unwanted bladder snails.

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

Just seen a dead one too. It's down the back of the tank among the plants and unable to be lifted out due to the amount of hardscape. It's not lifted to the surface yet so it's probably fresh meat. No apparent sign of any skin condition from what I see. Being so small and in a rather large tank...

Is this White spot on Green Neon Tetra?

As the title says. I just noticed one of the school has a white spot on the face, just behind the eye. However it's not really a spot as such if you watch the video clip. Although it's white, it's bigger in size than I'd expect for white spot. It's difficult to photograph and any way to rid the...

Is this stocking good? Not sure what forum to put this in.

Way too many fish. As indicated lookup the preferred water parameters, keep a database to record what each fish would be best with, then sort things out from there. I was also a stock-em to the top person and I had problems. I didn't, for instance consider how large some of the fish would get so...

What is happening to my fry!?

Aye, and you'll find all the snails in the tank climb to the top of the water in droves, if you have snails of course.

best way to - kindly- get rid of bladder snails

I go into the tank room early each morning. The blackout curtains are closed and there's no light on. I turn one of the blue lights on above the tank and hey...... A whole army. Not many of them are getting bigger than a grain of rice and many are perhaps only a day old and hardly old enough to...

    Cory Catching carefully!

A word of caution on the Sterbia. I had to catch 4 of them in my own tank recently. I managed with 3 of them by waiting until they disappeardd into their hideaway tunnel but the 4th was a problem. I managed to net it but it got stuck in the mesh and when i tried to pick it out it exuded loads of...

Still another case of barbel erosion. :(

A forensic problem solving matter here. Loss of barbels can really only be due to very few things. It's either sharp substrate that wears them down but if that was the case you would have seen a gradual loss rather than a sudden disappearance. If the play sand is smooth rather than builders sand...

    Dead Stock / Algae? Mold?

Often it's less expensive, less hassle and much less of a worry to just do a complete clean out and start all over again. Perhaps hang onto the guppy you still have or take it back to the LFS for store credit and go about a full set-up again with new substrate, plants etc. Sometimes this hobby...

Is my pH too high? Help please

Let's get to the root of the problem. Where does the water come from? is it from a supply by your local water authority? If so just visit their website to find out the water paramters. Guppies can go up to and slightly beyond 8.2 pH apparently but are best at something like a neutral reading...

    Anubias with driftwood

Superglue does work. I agree that gel is better though and if you do go down that route the gel takes a minute or two to set. I have it on most of the plants placed on the wood of my tanks but I must point out that using it is tricky. If you have some latex gloves it's best to put them on...

Move to RODI, fish gone into hiding, anything to worry about?

I live north of you in the east of Durham and also suffer horrible hard water but not high nitrates. As I have 7 tanks that need different water parameters for the fish in them, I was buying loads of Asda/Tesco bottle water to mix and dilute to the needs of each tank. Then I made a rainwater...

Baby tears: tearing my hair out

I got them from fleeabay as just unnamed seeds but described as something I associated with babat tears. Anyway they are fine and do the job at present. I may replace them at some stage depending on how they spread.

    Dead Stock / Algae? Mold?

They've definitely been poisoned. Whatever the poison is it must be a recent addition to the tank. Even if it were the mould it wouldn't necessarily take over the tank in one foul swoop. Given that the initial DG death was in April I suggest you put your thinking cap on. What had been added...

Baby tears: tearing my hair out

I sort of did that. I put some aqua soil into a tray and dropped seed onto it with enough water to just cover the soil but the seed all floated around so I did it again by placing a section of kitchen roll over the soil and seeds and they were put onto the cross section of my large tank to...

What is this string type substance?

I have much the same sort of stuff in one of my tanks. I put it down to biofilm. It's probably not though as it appears to have rooted. When I try to pull it off my harscape wood, the wood gets pulled too. I've reverted to cutting it off with scissors as close to the anchor point as possible...

    Constant niggles

Another water check today and the results have never been better. The new external filter won't have made a chemical change yet though so it must be the incresed flow of air through the sponge filter that's done the job. That said, although I never thought the water was anything other than...

    Big problems in Rio land

I haven't read the full thread so this may have been pointed out already, however the easiest way to do this is by doing a chargeback against the Visa card you used. Even if you didn't fully pay for it by Visa there's still a right to a chargeback. I've done it myself on a number of occasions...

    Apple v Pear

Well there are a good number of eels swimming above the filter this morning. I use a coffee cafetiere. It's much easier than using long neck bottles with filter wool stuffed in the neck. I'll keep an eye on things to see if there's any apparent increase in numbers.

best way to - kindly- get rid of bladder snails

Way too many people seem to think that bladder snails are a result of overfeeing, which is at best, only partially true. Sure, if you give them loads to eat then they will certainly take advantage of that, however I still have them in a tank that's been empty of fish for months, just waiting for...
