Lol...well unfortunately the pickup location is 2 hours away. I got some video while we were there, but not photos. Can't load the video for some reason. Pickup is Saturday the 4th of February...lots more updates coming around that time!

    I'm in deep now...

Well, my boyfriend and I talked about it last night, and we were both leaning toward doing a massive community tank (rather than a large type fish tank), so that's what we've decided to do. He likes a lot of different types of fish & shrimp, and I love the beauty of a planted/scaped tank...just...

    Abit of help please 🙏

Well, I don't have experience with CO2, so I'll leave that to you. But, I do know that algae typically comes from: lights on too long or too high, overfeeding or not doing water changes often enough (since we are talking about total nutrients here - maybe cut back on the fertilizer regimen?)...

    Goldfish is bleeding!!

Can we get some more info? I see that your goldfish is in a sink right now, I assume just to wash off the blood? Is it tanked with other goldfish? I can't personally think of anything that would do this aside from being attacked or maybe it cut itself on something sharp in the tank?

    Abit of help please 🙏

Have you considered just stopping the CO2 and see what happens? I mean before you go so far as removing all the aqua soil...I might try that. Unless you just feel like rescaping. It's a beautiful tank though just the way it is, I didn't see any algae until I saw the zoom in pictures, and even...

    Sterilizing this drift wood

Hmmm...it has been in the teens, I suppose that is probably true. Thanks for the input! (To the OP, sorry i wasn't trying to coop your thread!)

Hello, Going on an adventure, will need help

I agree with this. Plus, dirted tanks (even capped) eventually get mixed with sand or whatever is capping them, and the water gets all cloudy and dirty. IMO it's best to use an inert substrate like pool sand/play sand, i like medium grain size with teeny tiny gravel mixed in a bit. Then just...

    New location.

I'd take out most of the tank water, water your lovely plants with it. Replace with treated tap, or RO/Distilled water, whatever your usual process is.

By the way, I have 10 cherry barbs and they are extremely peaceful. Don't let the "barb" fool you, they're not one of THEM...

Lost an L199 pleco (trigger warning: dead fish photos)

Have no idea! Sorry, I see your water quality is good, water changes good, no new tankmates introduced in a year - so unlikely caught disease. Could it have been beaten up? I don't know much about these plecos, I don't even know if they fight with each other. Just wondering since the fins and...

    Sterilizing this drift wood

I do agree, I too am worried about the cooties and bugs. Well, I'll try the Granny Clampett bathtub boil. Thanks for your feedback.

    What is this plant?

Some kind of rotala? Edit: actually, I was trying to think of Ludwigia, I agree with Byron (below)

Right now, with 12 tanks (all but one are lidded), it's perfect. Just enough humidity that my house plants love it. A little worried about the increase when we move the new tanks over, but who doesn't enjoy feeling like you live in the tropics when it's below freezing out?

I love this idea (when) it's no longer a home for oscars...btw, anyone want some oscars?

I assure you I won't be able to help myself from posting the pics! Just gonna take a little while, this 220 gallon tank is a fixer upper. Nothing wrong with the glass or anything, but the base needs some serious work. New paint job, new doors & hinges, etc.

    I'm in deep now...

I know! I'm so excited. Like a month ago, the BF and I were talking about "someday" we are getting a really large tank (I was thinking like a 180) for the living room. Was not expecting the opportunity to come so soon. I mentioned it comes with some oscars and other big fish, we will set it...

i would upload a video of the tanks, but i'm old and can't figure out how...when i try it says file not compatible or something like that. anyway, not important right now, you guys know what tanks look like. once i have them set up the way I LIKE, then i'll care more about uploading the...

    Sterilizing this drift wood

While we are on the subject, I have multiple pieces of large driftwood - one is about 5-5.5 ft long, so definitely won't fit in the oven - have been too worried to use it previously, but just bought a 220 gallon tank that I need to stock with wood and large rocks. So, will be just taking a risk...

    I'm in deep now...

I do have a garage that I'm not really using - so I could potentially start there, just wasn't sure how "professional" people would think it is (and not sure of the legality of that, I'll have to look into it more). I basically have 2 fish rooms where the majority of aquariums will be, and then...

Yeah he had back surgery about 6 months ago, and said he just couldn't keep up with all the water changes, etc. He and his wife were the ones doing all the work, and they were both getting older.

    Failed pond, transitioning into fishtank

Something I wish I knew 20+ years ago when I first started this journey (though the internet wasn't the jewel of information that it is now, back then), is that you can and should research carefully all of your fishes water parameters and needs - before buying them. Seriously, I've made so many...

    Sterilizing this drift wood

Well, I haven't had personal experience with it, but have heard that there are some pests, like dragon fly larvae, that can be dangerous to your tank inhabitants. Just saying, a bake in the oven won't hurt - not doing anything might. I totally agree though that pesticides and other human...

Thanks for your question! I almost went into the details further because I'm really excited about it, but thought maybe others wouldn't be so much. Anyway, here's what I'm planning for now - and those with experience feel free to offer suggestions: The 220 is coming with 2 oscars and 3 large...

How to Raise PH in Aquarium?

Firstly, what kind of fish are you keeping in your water? You should always research their recommended water parameters, 6.8 is perfectly fine for most tropical fish. However, if you want to buffer the pH so that it's less likely to drop off over time (which can happen), you can add some...

Help! Guppies Staying on Bottom and Refusing to Eat

Sorry, but I see lots of problems with your current set-up. 3 gallons is very difficult to keep chemically stable because it's such a small amount of water, and also you should have a small tank heater to keep your guppies water temperature at 72-82 degrees <-- that is probably why they are...

    I'm in deep now...

So, yesterday we bought 10 tanks (all fish and filters, lights, etc., included) from a guy who was shutting down his LFS for health reasons, and the price was rock bottom. 220 gallon (dream display tank that I always wanted) 2 x 75 gallons 1 x 65 gallons 6 x 40 gallons That's in addition to...

    Sterilizing this drift wood

I understand your concern as it has been out in the elements and bugs have had access to it. Personally, if it were me, I would put it in the oven and bake it on the lowest setting for a few hours. Just keep monitoring it, I don't think there is a fire risk, but if you have a gas stove -...

    Losing my nitrate battle

https://www.fdacs.gov/Consumer-Resources/Recreation-and-Leisure/Aquarium-Fish/Aquarium-Water-Quality-Nitrogen-Cycle Nitrate Nitrate is formed from the breakdown of nitrite by nitrifying bacteria. Except in very high concentrations, nitrate is not toxic to most freshwater fish. Nitrate can be...

    Losing my nitrate battle

Am I just crazy? Are we really talking about NITRATE levels of 40ppm being too high? I am reading from the previous posts that this is poisonous to fish and that aquatic plants don't lower the nitrate, when I was under the impression that 40ppm is not a dangerous level and that aquatic plants...

Algae problem cant get rid of the green water no matter what we do! Feel like giving up!

Hey newtothis, LFS stands for local fish store. Most of them, if you bring in some of your tank water, will test it for you to see if your levels are good. If you are able to, you should consider purchasing a "master test kit" (search Amazon or they have them at Petco, Petsmart, LFS, etc.)...
