    Plant identification

^^^^^^^^^^^^closest answer i think. it's definitely not cabomba or hornwort.

    What is this plant?

It is a type of cabomba (cabomba carolinia? i think), thank you!

Please give your suggestions...easiest (non-livebearer) fish to spawn

Why easiest? Because I'm new to breeding/spawning egg scatterers...and it would be nice to know which ones will just do it if they are in a heavily planted species tank. I do plan to try the more challenging ones, and totally agree that they are probably most fulfilling. Also, agree with the...

Thank you! So many good suggestions

Please give your suggestions...easiest (non-livebearer) fish to spawn

You know, like a tank you can just set up as a species community and they will spawn all on their own without egg collecting contraptions, or cones, or mops, etc. For example, I hear panda corys just breed like bunnies...anyone else?

    Betta sp. Jade ''Green'' questions

oh, i'm sorry, i thought that is what your post meant by "Betta sp." (sp. for splendens?), but I see this is in the "non-splendens" area -- which i have no experience with! so i will butt out, but good luck! i am interested in setup mentioned by GaryE above...maybe i will try one too!

    Betta sp. Jade ''Green'' questions

Will they breed in your parameters? Probably, your parameters look okay to me. The bigger question for me is, what will you do with all the babies? Do you have a grow out tank for them? What size is your tank (that I assume the pair will be bred in), and do you have a separate tank to move...

    How long to wait...

Well, it's been four months since the last deaths? I think I'd be okay adding more fish at this point if it were me, but another option would be to go ahead and treat the remaining two (just in case)...such as with the trio recommended by aquarium co-op: Fritz Maracyn, Aquarium Solutions Ich-X...

    Retired and reviving 300-gallon tank

I've been lucky enough to find everything i have at my LFSs, plants and fish. I guess because of that I haven't shopped much online, plus the live shipping costs are more than I want to pay. But if money were no factor, I would take advantage of the greater selection available online. Also, if...

    Retired and reviving 300-gallon tank

Wow, that's going to be gorgeous. So cool how it is displayed in the wall like that. When I set up my tanks, I like to do it in this order: any "large" rock pieces, I put in first for the sake of stability. I don't want fish tunneling under them and causing them to tip and squish fish, plants...

    Retired and reviving 300-gallon tank

Well the tank isn't going to have to go through a true cycling, since it's been set up for years at the LFS. We are just draining it, removing everything into buckets, moving it to our house and refilling it. Everything that will be going into it, wood, rock, established filter, all should...

    Retired and reviving 300-gallon tank

I have never seen my angelfish eat any of my other fish (I have a school of green neons, which are the smallest of all the neons) and I still have 15, zero losses. The concern for aggression is, when you have more than one - if you end up with a male female pair - at some point when they are...

    Retired and reviving 300-gallon tank

I'm getting a 220 gallon on Saturday (already paid for, just gotta pick it up) - and I will be putting about 19 angelfish in it (we'll have to see if I add more over time). It's going to be a planted community tank, I don't want to hijack this thread (I already have my own "in too deep", if...

    More dead fish

The reason I am thinking oxygen may be an issue is because you said they were swimming at the top. When this happens, the general concensus is that you should do a large water change immediately. Essentially water changes accomplish two things, diluting the bad stuff and adding oxygen (and...

I love that idea <3 I've been eying these blue harlequins (kind of like a navy blue color actually) at my LFS for a couple months now...but the originals are so cool too, and ive never kept them before.

I did not....................went right over my head. Hey i'm new to big fish tanks...so I need a python hose. Got it. I just have a normal gravel vac type siphon with a hand pump thing to get it going.

    More dead fish

Also, another thought after watching your video, did you get that wood straight from nature? The reason I ask is because you should always use "hardwood" with no rot on it...lift it out of your tank and see if it smells weird or even if your water smells weird (before lifting the wood out)...

    More dead fish

Not to be argumentive, but based on the size of fish in ratio to the tank in the video...that can't be 300 gallons. It "looks" like a 75 gallon maybe, which would equate almost to a 300 liter tank? By the way, your tank is beautiful! As for what is causing the die off, my thoughts are add a...

    The Big Figfetti

Lovely :) Nice job I love your tank, and I think 10 gallons (planted) is perfect for betta. Bigger, deeper tanks, in my experience, don't work as well with them. That, and if you ever decide to add friends for him (bettas don't have to live alone - that's a myth), just make sure they're...

    New here and to fishkeeping

Welcome! There will probably be many questions, and none of them are dumb. Aquarium water chemistry is hard, fish illness/disease is hard, and they succumb fast. So never feel bad for asking about anything here, there are tons of fishkeepers with decades of experience to help guide you if...

    High nitrites

If I am understanding you have NOT been dosing with fish food, since you are seeing nitrites, that would indicate you don't need to. I would keep testing like you are doing, and your ammonia and nitrites should be falling to zero in the next 2-4 weeks. I would consider adding some buffer to...

    The Impossible Dream

Hi Wills! Excited to see your tank set up....we are getting our big tank this coming Saturday (so we'll both be setting up at the same-timish it seems). Thanks again for your input on my thread about the Nics and I'm really looking forward to seeing how yours turns out.

What is your experience with Macaw cichlids?

I appreciate it! I will take whatever info I can get. Well, our current plan is still to try to sell/trade most of them to our LFSs and possibly at a fish show in our area next month. But I do have multiple 75 gallon tanks, plus a 65, and a 50 gal, and six 40 breeders. So, like I mentioned...

What is your experience with Macaw cichlids?

Yeah, we are definitely trying to offload some/most of the juveniles - don't want that many full grown macaw cichlids...even if they're pretty. Thank you for the interesting info!
  33. ChasingFish

What is your experience with Macaw cichlids?

Well, the juveniles are currently about 1.5 to 2 inches each I would say, and they are in a 40 breeder that we are buying. We will have a 220 gallon community tank as of next Saturday - but my boyfriend is hesitant to put them in there since it will have many other types of fish - including...

What is your experience with Macaw cichlids?

One of my tanks is coming with a bunch of juvenile Macaw cichlids (like 30ish)...we are going to try to unload most if not all of them to LFS's...but so far the first one we approached wasn't interested. I'm a bit apprehensive as I understand they get up to 10 inches when full grown and though...

The easiest live plants to care for?

Regarding the question about hornwort and alkalinity, my tap water is 7.2-7.4, so fairly neutral/slightly alkaline. I have kept it in more acidic water without issue (thus far)...like maybe 6.0-6.5. Not sure about how it will do outside of those parameters.
  36. ChasingFish

The easiest live plants to care for?

Agree on all the plants that Slaphppy7 said. Also, Hornwort is an "floater" plant, that has always been easy for me...i have heard some people say "if" it dies it drops a mess of needles everywhere, but again, I've had no issues. I also like cobamba (can be floater or planted).

    blood parrot cichlids...controversial fish??

We just recently acquired some blood parrot cichlids (that came with a tank purchase). This is not a fish that I think I would have ever set out to purchase (based on appearances), but now that I have them LIVE in person in my tank, and see how funny and interesting their interactions are with...

No, luckily my house has enough space (and that is not even taking account of the garage, which does have running water/electricity, etc...so if we needed to put some out there we could).
