    Soil Substrate

What is the best thing I can use for plants? I just want to cap with sand, possibly gravel, but have a layer of nutrients underneath. What substrate will work well for this? Thank you for the help.

    Soil Substrate

I’ve been getting into live plants, so I’m redoing a 10 gallon that currently has just gravel as a substrate. The tank would only have snails, maybe a couple guppies (long after it’s been cycled completely.) I’ve read that using organic potting mix works as a nutrient layer at the bottom, but...

    Tank clearness

What size tank is it? 12 comet fish is a lot, so if your tank is on the small size, it could be overstocked. This is a big reason why the water quality might not be what you want it to be.

    Tank raising pond snails?

Thanks! I really do love goldfish, so I’ll have to look into adding some. As long as the snails have been in there without fish for that long, they won't have disease of any kind? I'm not concerned for the fish when they're added, just for the snails themselves. Will breeding them and maybe...

    Tank raising pond snails?

The middle is 4-6 feet deep, so I think goldfish or similar would be okay when it freezes over. (With oxygen still)

    Tank raising pond snails?

I might put in fish, but I think there would be a lot of clean up work involved because it hasn’t been touched in 20 years. Yes, it is fairly large.

    Tank raising pond snails?

After recently moving into a house with a pond (natural) I discovered there were Ramshorn snails. Fish have never lived in the pond before, but I am very concerned about the diseases the snails might carry. What is the best way to go about quarantining them, and or knowing when they are...

0 ppm ammonia and nitrate, 20 ppm for nitrate. It’s water from the tank they were moved from.

    Help!! Problems with snails

I feed mine the same thing as you, and sometimes homemade food. They breed really well in all my tanks, they just die in the container. Nothing was in the container except fish before I put them in it, and I cleaned it very well.

    Help!! Problems with snails

I always put food in for them, but they seem to die very quickly- so I don’t think it could be starvation. The only reason I’m not sure why they wouldn’t be safe is because I have had fish living in them for months at a time with no issues. Contamination seems to be the only possibility though.

    Help!! Problems with snails

Only new fish have been in it, and none of them have ever been sick, so no medications. I’ve tried multiple different containers as well.

    Help!! Problems with snails

It seems to vary, but it’s hard to tell exactly when they do die. They sometimes just never come out of their shell from the moment they’ve been put in. The containers are Sterilite brand. ( just storage containers purchased specifically for fish.)

    Help!! Problems with snails

I’m experiencing the most bizarre thing! I’ve recently purchased a bunch of Ramshorn snails, and they are happy in my main tank. I’ve wanted to move them to their own tank for a while, and this is where the problem starts. I haven’t bought the tank itself yet- and so I usually just use a...
