Managed to get a couple of pics after almost two years

Sorry I haven't logged in for a few days so didn't see this. We only keep small fish so the shrimp aren't in any danger from them, they are actually bigger than the fish lol I think you're right to avoid them for an oscar tank though, they would soon be lunch 😋 We are limited to what fish we...

Managed to get a couple of pics after almost two years

One of them is quite large, I would say a good 4 inches if not a little more, it's certainly bigger than all of our fish! The other three are all around the same size, I would say maybe 2.5 - 3 inches or so, so they are a decent size. They are in our 240L (4ft) tank with their friends which...

Managed to get a couple of pics after almost two years

Thank you :) I think people call them various names, we know them as giant fan shrimp but I have heard them called vampire shrimp too (not sure why lol) but the scientific name for them is Atya Gabonensis They are really entertaining to watch......when you can see them! Spotting them can be a...

Managed to get a couple of pics after almost two years

I think I have mentioned before that we have 4 giant fan shrimp in our tank and after them being in there for almost two years now, I have finally managed to get a couple of decent-ish close up pictures of a couple of them. Man they are hard to spot and even harder to get pictures of! Just...

    Threadjacking Policy

The thing is though, when you take over someone elses thread with sillyness, it may be funny for you, but it often isn't for the OP and others trying to help. This may sound harsh but it has now been made a rule so you should refrain, not just try to. If you can't stick to the rules you should...

    Threadjacking Policy

Personally I think this is a brilliant rule. I'm new here so I don't want to offend or ruffle feathers but as a newbie, it is indeed very difficult to use the forum wih all the sillyness happening. It makes the search function in particular incredibly difficult to use because you find a...

    Tips for dealing with stress?

It's a great little kit the aquarium, I posted a picture of my completed one yesterday :) They are part of the 3-in-1 range where you get the one set of lego, but directions for building three different projects - the fish tank one can also be a treasue chest or an art easel if I remember...

Like this you mean? Honestly, take a look at their website if it's something that might interest you, they have a massive selection of different kits It's a personal thing though like anything I suppose, my hubby couldn't think of anything worse than doing Lego where as I love it

    Tips for dealing with stress?

I'm relatively new here and haven't posted much really, but this thread just jumped out to me and I had to log in and comment because in my opinion, and I have some experience of mental health problems, @Colin_T has made two excellent suggestions - getting some counselling and also Lego! I have...

    IS THIS ICH??

True, I didn't give that a thought TBH I don't know about the ingredients listed but I have used it myself so I know from personal experience that it is shrimp and snail safe - well, it didn't harm ours in the slightest so that's my knowledge of it. Like I said, we had to dose twice to fully...

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

I still chuckle at Snailitis! TBH I think we are going to go with the "fish them out and squish on mass" approach, so I'll do the fishing out, OH can do the squishing bit :D

    IS THIS ICH??

I can see that you are trying other methods now but for future, or if anyone else sees this thread, the Esha Exit is available for next day delivery on Amazon

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

That makes me feel slightly better I guess  thanks (I think lol) I think selling them is just going to be too much hassle for hardly any return at the end of the day so the methods advised will be put into prcatice this weekend......eeeeek!!

    IS THIS ICH??

We have used a product called Esha Exit to treat white spot (Ich) and I can confirm that it worked, although we did have to do two treatments. Also, our shrimp and snails were completely unharmed by it.

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

"Snailitis" 😂 brilliant! They mainly stay in the substrate but we have a large piece of wood in the tank and they seem to really like that and that is mainly where we see them in the day time. It's very rare we spot them on the glass, they are either on / in the substrate or on that wood, but...

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

Thank you for the advice, I'm guessing that will be this weekends job (although I won't like it much) I know they are only snails and are classed as pests generally, but I still feel so bad about having to do this :( Needs must I suppose!

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

Oh we can definitely see them during the day, there's lots of them. We didn't have any at all (that we could see) we bought a new plant thinking nothing of it and a little while later, all of a sudden they just seemed to appear from the gravel so I can only assume they were carried in on the...

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

:D This made me chuckle!! It seems we should be ok then in that case, they are certainly not causing any problems at the moment as far as we can tell, so they are welcome to stay Thanks as always for your input guys!

Is there such a thing as too many snails?

We have a large number of MTS in our tank and to be honest, we quite like them - they help to keep things clean and some of their shells are actually really beautiful. We have all sizes from teeny tiny ones to quite large ones, so they are at all stages of development and clearly thriving. But...

    Questions!

I'm no expert but I would say that 30G may be too small for a puffer because they are very erm.......rotund let's say ha! It's not just the size of the fish that you need to think about but also space for decoartion because as you say above, they need stimulation from their environment. A...

    Questions!

We used something similar to thisand the GSP loved it - she would hide in amongst the "branches" and act like she was playing hide and seek - sort of peeking out, spotting you there and then going back in again, it was really fun to watch :D We also added some off cuts of plastic piping from...

    Questions!

I have kept a GSP in the past, they are great little puffers with bags of personality! Be aware though that they don't stay in brackish water forever, that's only when they are juvenile and will need to be in full salt (marine) when they are matured. You probably already know this if you love...

I will start by saying this post is tongue in cheek - myself and my hubby joke about these things because it's how we do things, so if I mention arguments, disagreements etc, it's not serious!! So I have some MH issues - OCD, anxiety and possibly ADHD (Oh I must be a joy to live with )...
