Sounds to me like it is the Danio's. They are usually very nippy, and they often nip the most at night when its dark, maybe thats why you never see them nipping the guppies?

Really? at my lfs, theres 2 clownfish and 2 really small dory's and the yellow one in a tank around 125l big :s if your right then it just goes to show how much they know

Thanks guys :) I dont want to necessarily put them off, just want them to take into thought how much work it actually takes, seeing as they dont have much time on their hands to start with. I think they should start with a freshwater aquarium first.  They want the 'finding nemo' tank ..

If you want more fish in your aquarium i would definitely get a bigger aquarium, but since you are trying to start small, i would stay with what you have for now and not get any more fish.  Maybe you could work your way up slowly in time? for example get a 10 gallon and add a few more small...

Yes that's true, ill buy fish from the nearest pets at home store from now on, I've never had a fish die from there, and as you can clearly see on their policy, they are more concerned about the fish than the customers which is good. The fish all seem very healthy there every time I visit.
