    Byron Hoskins RIP

Actually that makes four of us, five if I count my beloved who has defeated the scourge three times beginning at age 19. Mine is not immediately life threatening and responding to treatment. I have no concerns and have follow up in a couple weeks.

    Question bout swordtails

We have one male and four females in the 37G tank. No big issues although the male does spend his time chasing one or another of the girls. The courting is spread pretty evenly though so the ladies to not act stressed for the most part. No litters yet but I am sure they will happen. The swords...

Journey from dining room to fish room.

Spent yesterday, Thursday, cleaning serious storm damage. The wind came from nowhere sometime in the middle of the night and must have been ferocious. The front yard had garbage strewn about from the cans which were blown clear across the driveway, (a good 75 feet). The gazing ball at the...

    Tank Set Up for Fry

We have a local chain that will take Molly and Guppy. They have several location within 40 miles or so and as long as Linda will deliver they will accept. She has also pawned some to a member or two at a somewhat local fish club. The club is her first choice. The local chain is giving her a...

Fun Facts We Didn't Need To Know

I believe all life has some form of for lack of a better term awareness of its surroundings. I also believe the soft sciences want to believe it is in some way comparable to human life. I do not believe so with a few exceptions. Very few life forms anticipate the future and most that do, do so...

    Tank Set Up for Fry

Yes! I have extra sponge filters that are bubbling in two of our tanks as well as bags of material soaking in every tank, plus will transfer some of the gravel from the 20-gallon tank that currently houses Linda's babies.

Journey from dining room to fish room.

Pond area work yesterday. The new 30 gallon breeder sits on the porch doing a leak test. It is not leaking, being new it should not. For some reason, mostly based in being bull headed my mind is insisting on using those dastardly marble slabs around the pond. Yesterday I somewhat leveled a...

Do you guys not like tank backgrounds???

We have not gotten to doing much about backgrounds yet. Linda has basically used the coloful packaging that comes with the glass boxes, or nothing at all on the tanks. The 30 gallon long will be the first tank with a background we thing about. I am leaning toward using a 36 by 12-inch slab of...

    Tank Set Up for Fry

Well, Linda rinsed the tank and gave it a good alcohol bath followed by a severe rinsing. I then moved it to the enclosed porch where she filled it with water for a 24 hour water test. No leaks which is to be expected because it is new. We have tested each tank like this because a leak would be...

Circuit breaker went bad today. Secondary power suggestions?

We have a couple outages each year. Usually a few hours but sometimes a few days, seventeen days after Sandy and eleven after an unarmed storm. Short outages are becoming more common up here as storm intensity is increasing. We have used portable generators for years. Currently have two dual...

    Tank Set Up for Fry

Will not be any money involved. My loan experience with turning hobby to gig was with wood working. Built a silverware cabinet for in-laws. One of their friends wanted one and offered to pay. Being young and poor I jumped. The work came out fine and they were pleased, but, the whole project...

    Tank Set Up for Fry

I know! Linda has already trehomed Molly and guppy. Also donated a bunch of them to lfs at about 6 weeks age. The swords were obliterated by the Angel but she saved two. Current twenty gallon has a mix of about 30 Molly and guppy. I did not like the idea of a bare bottom, least not for a tank.

Also wondering .... Would shrimp be a good choice to help keep the tank clean. We really dislike snails and with a few exceptions consider them to be pests. I have read that shrimp will eat the fry. Is there a shrimp that will be to small to do so? We have learned by trial and error that it...

    Tank Set Up for Fry

Good Morning, Today it will be raining so Linda and I have decided it will be a great time to set up the 30 gallon for future live bearer fry. The tank is 36 inches long and a dozen inches wide and tall. Linda is completely taken with raising fish children and by luck of the draw, no fore...

We are frying some chicken drums southern style this morning and making a pasta salad. My recipe for burghers on the grill --- One and half pound 95% HB ... 1/2-pound good ground sweet sausage ... 1/2-pound ground veal. 75 gallon set up from scratch

I am guessing MTS is multiple tank syndrome. Neither of us has it? The new room just needs the necessary number and the idea is to have them on hand instead of needing to scurry about at the end of the build out. The tanks are mutually agreed upon but I really hate shopping and normally pick...

75 gallon set up from scratch

    Shipment done...

I back up with paper. Guess I am old fashion but if it is important to me I print and put in a file cabinet. Pictures I periodically browse with Linda and we select those we want to keep and have them developed and added to scrapbooks. Just old fashioned I suppose but it works well for me.

I browsed some of this man's threads. Surely this hobby has lost a great mind. Although I did not know the fella I am sorry for the loss to those who did. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Cancer is truly a scurrilous disease and I have watched it steal before. May he rest in...

    Identify this Molly please

First Thanks to all! Linda has chosen the 75. She wants to save the extra 6 inch width. Why? I do not know. She also ordered the 40 breeder with two panels. She wants to breed her own Molly for the 75. I just shrug my shoulders at this point.
