    Java Fern

That's awesome. I'd love to see a photo of it. Sizable Java looks really nice in my opinion.

    Proper Heater Placement

I just like to make sure my heater isn't up against other equipment or decorations etc. I also usually lay mine horizontally near the bottom of the tank. Or in the case of my marine tank it's in the sump.

Diy Sponge Filter For Guppy Fry Tank

Yes, it's an addiction.  I do believe PetCo also sells those sponge filters. Making your own might be a little tricky because they do use a sponge of a certain porosity so that the air flows properly and they are also non-toxic.

Diy Sponge Filter For Guppy Fry Tank

Ah, I'm a Prime member so it's always 2 days shipping for me and since we have an Amazon warehouse here it's usually even faster.

Diy Sponge Filter For Guppy Fry Tank

Just buying one, non-DYI is really affordable. Just a few dollars really. You can get sponge filters from Amazon for like $4 and then you just need an air pump.

    Never Go.....

That's such a fish's fish if you know what I mean. A fine example of the order.

    A Minor Complaint

I looked around the back end after I posted the above but there wasn't a setting that would take care of it. I'll just keep an eye out for an update to that plug-in but in the mean time...

    Newbie

Welcome to the forum. Cloudy water in the beginning is pretty normal. It doesn't happen to every tank but does happen often. It's generally caused by bacteria.    Before getting your fish please take a look at this...

    A Minor Complaint

I will look into timeout settings but there isn't an actual way to make this go away, just to prolong it. The reason being that the chat is an add-on and this represents a programmatic oversight on the part of the add-on author. The only way for it to get fixed is when the author updates his...

    2015 Iaplc Results: Incredible Aquascapes.

Right! I look at the one you have in your signature and I really like it. I think you have done a nice job and it's wonderful to look at then I see the ones posted above and I just wonder how human beings did them.

Me too! It's incredible. Meaning I wish I had the skill...not that I wish you had the skill because you could read it that way too...ha!

    Nice To See

I think anyone who has been keeping fish for even as short as 10 years has done fish-in cycles. I've been keeping fish since I was 5 years old (so...that's a long time ago) and there was no thought at all about any other way back then, not even a hint of it.    Now, we know better of course...

Search Engine Going To The Wrong Place

This should be fixed. Clear your cache and see. This was found yesterday (maybe day before) and removed by the tech folks.

    I Want A Challenge

With a tank that size you might want to try some inverts and see how that goes.

Unable To Log In On Mobile Device

As a general rule when some people can get in and others can't it's usually something on the user's environment. When it's a problem with the site it usually is something lots of people notice.

That is very odd. What does it do or not do specifically?

Fish Learn Rank Positioning Through Observation

It's likely a combination depending on the species. Some it will be visible, others it will be electrosensory, and others it might be odor.

Fish Learn Rank Positioning Through Observation

I first noticed intelligence in my fish when I kept my first puffer. Due to their stereoscopic eyes it's easy to see them focus. Once I saw what he was focusing on I was able to attract the gaze and train him.

    Nice To See

Really, that's one of the main reasons forums like this exist to combat the bad information given to new fishkeepers.

Fish Learn Rank Positioning Through Observation

Though I certainly know that fish are smarter than is commonly thought by non-hobbyists this study demonstrates a cognitive level I had not expected. I think this could lead to new husbandry practices for reducing aggression in tanks. Granted this is one species, but it's likely to apply to...

Help! My Platy Is A Bully!

Dwarf gourami are timid and often bullied. They are prone to getting their filaments nipped off and taking ill. In my experience there are three things you can try.   Alter the aquascape so that there are tall plants (or fake ones) that the gourami can hide in. If this doesn't work do one of the...

    Nice To See

Because it is likely that new fish keepers will continue to put fish in un-cycle tanks it's important that we have information on how to deal with that. Even though we all understand that it is not ideal it is a reality of the hobby.

    Takashi Amano Rest In Peace

For those of you who share a passion, as I do, for planted aquascapes this news will come as a shock and with sadness. I just learned that on August 4th, 2015 Takashi Amano died of complications from pneumonia. He was 61 years of age. His influence in the hobby simply cannot be underestimated.

Yes, that's really what I liked about them they have a large fish feel about them.

    Hospital Tank Filtration?

I would much rather kill the bacteria in a small single tank than in my main display. One puts a single fish at risk while the other would put my entire livestock at risk. I can manage a small hospital tank without bacteria as a single fish will produce less ammonia and the smaller size would...

    Hospital Tank Filtration?

I have to agree with the practice of keeping filtration separate between the hospital tank and the main tank. We don't want pathogens or parasites to be transferred into the main tank. That said, I have only used a hospital tank on very rare occasions. And in those cases it was more for...

Scientists Study The Calming Effect Of Watching Fish

I third it! The rock design I have must be cemented. In the past I've just stacked and that was enough. But this tank will be unique.  Since I started this thread I guess I'm not technically hijacking it. Here's a preview.

Scientists Study The Calming Effect Of Watching Fish

Thanks. Just checking. I want that calming effect in my study so I've got to get the tank set up soon! We're finally to a point with moving, and all that I feel I am organized enough to do it. It's a reef tank. The rocks are sitting on a sheet on my floor waiting to be cemented together and...
