In most infections the young's are on your glass and in your substrate. That's why a good cleanup is good before medicating. But... Do fishes really live long?

The sad part of this hobby is that you are plunged in problems... ...As soon as you dip a toe, you must be ready to dive in. In my personal experience. Today, bringing a tank to heaven is no fancy feast. If you don't have at least healthy viable fish in the beginning, it's pure torture...

    Do fishes really live long?

I think Gary sums it all, for me the first point is really choosing fish that like your water or be able to provide that. The rest mainly comes from experience... And many times by unknown/hidden predispositions one may have. I always was good with goldfishes, I can make them grow enormous...

If there is only males in the tank, the more you have, the less they will fight. I say "fight" but it's not even close. It's more like little "Mexican Standoff" displays off beauty and strength. They are generally peaceful fish and don't tend to fight with each other, especially when there...

Why Is My Algae Eater Turning Black?

It looks pretty symmetrical on both sides, does the it shows any other symptoms ? The fish on the picture looks healthy to me. They are a line-bred variety that has a lot of albinism, so it suppresses the natural color patterns. As the fish grow older. The natural colors and patterns may...

If nitrite didn't change for a week and you added ammonia... It's working, your nitrite are starting to be converted. if it was not, it would continue to rise. I would add ammonia and hope nitrite start to lower next tests. You're on the right way in my book. 👍

    Ick Advice please?

Before a mod moves the thread, You need at least 2 degrees more, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis will go faster under that. But just a little malachite green in addition will represses ich like nothing. With the heat in addition it can bring a lot of other external parasites off at the same time.

    Fishless Cycling Advice

No, the production of nitrate indicates that the bacteria that deals with nitrite are multiplying or not. Excluding plants and other by process. At any stages of the cycle, if no nitrate is produced, nitrite are not really being processed and will build up if no other exits are available. In a...

    Cherry shrimps not multiplying?

Once a female develops a saddle, it takes 2-3 weeks before it mates, if the water is ok and there is no molting issues, she should reappear berried in the next days. The only thing that could make a female hold her eggs is the lack of suitable males or a serious impossibility to molt. If...

When you are going to see shrimps with saddles, it's on it's way, then you should see berried shrimps. Plants are like natural carbon???

Yes I agree that plants use tannin to a certain degree for sure, or something else does, I have a shrimp tank that is very low on water changes and the tint in the water always vanish without using carbon. Plants are like natural carbon???

I would say that plants, while they have a much broader capability, they mainly target the nutrients they use in their growth. Carbon will absorb organic compounds, medications, certain metals and a panoply of chemicals that plants don't use. Activated carbon is a must have on hand at all...

Is this filter's intake too large for a shrimp tank?

If you can put something in the bag that will serve as spacers, that will prevent the bag from being in direct contact with the intake protection grid, could be enough to prevent it to clog too fast.

    Cloudy Water

If it's dust from gravel, some are so fine they go trough filtration and never settles. A big water change will fix that. Make sure you use temperature matching dechlorinated water. Watch not to overfeed them, You're doing a cycle with fish, have you a test kit ?
