    What fish is this?

I was warned off Serpae Tetras by a neighbour then by his son then on here in the space of about a week. Turned out my water didn’t suit but it did suit Silver Tip Tetras……..who can also get a bit nippy and naughty apparently.

    My current six tank setups

U.K. customer service is generally shocking. I emailed the other lot about a custom tank in May last year. Still waiting! I’m not actually as I found one that was perfect on eBay once the lockdown started easing for businesses. They’ve not got back is what I meant.

    The Tea Lovers Thread

Loose tea requires concentration on behalf of the drinker. No matter if one of those metal dangly tea cages or a strainer has been used some leaves will escape into the cup. After decades of tea bag usage you get out of the habit of being prepared for them and it never stops Being a shock when...

    The Tea Lovers Thread

It was all Chinese tea originally. Didnt exist anywhere else apparently and the Chinese wouldn’t sell or swap any plants. Then they were foolish enough to believe some upper crust Brits who said they only wanted to look at the plants for scientific purposes……. The lying posh Brits then hot...

Get two or more smaller pieces of wood rather than one big one . You can then design caves tunnels etc.

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

“not more than 2” is where we started. Hopefully no one on here is persuaded to buy one thinking it’s going to grow to less than 2”. Im in the not more than 4” body length camp.

    Beginners Questions

Depends if it’s a salt based water filter. Find out the figures from your water suppliers website before buying any fish. Once you’ve posted them on here the mega sized brains of the ff.net regulars will point you in the direction of the fish that’ll be happiest in your tap water. Believe me tap...

    Beginners Questions

You need to find out your water hardness and water PH at the very least before anyone can sensibly recommend fish. Tap water will make yours and the fishes lives a lot easier than buying and transporting water from elsewhere. The water info will be on your water suppliers website. If you name...

Is this overstocked? + Centerpiece Fish Question

Take a look on seriouslyfish.com and input your fish of choice. It’ll tell you group size minimums, water temp, water ph, water hardness, tank size, best tank mates etc for just about every possible fish available. When I returned after 23 yrs away from fish the science had moved on. I found SF...

Coffee Lover’s Corner Next to the Tea Room

Speaking of French presses. Has anyone any idea where to buy a plastic French press? IE no glass at all. Im in the construction industry and it wouldn’t last a day at work. Ebay etc describe them as plastic but they’re only talking about the “frame” not the “jar”.

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

SF also quotes tank size as within mines range. I’m dubious about putting a fish of even SFs version of Paradisefish size into my tank. That my Paradisefish of years back was bigger is the reason I’ve never even considered one for my current set up even though SF considers everything within its...

Seriouslyfish has 70-80mm. 2.75-3.25 inches. Hmmmmm. For the first time in my reborn aquarist life I’m doubting seriouslyfish. Obviously some must grow bigger than others. Im a carpenter of 44 years sawdust manufacturing (minus covid of course). I know what measurements look like away from...

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

Mines body length was nigh on two Zebra Danio body lengths when I had him about 24 years ago. Not that anyone stayed still long enough to compare. Id say adult male would be getting towards 4”. Certainly over 3”. If I thought just over 2” was their body length I’d be off down my LFS to get one...

A poor Brit swimming in the sea around @Colin_T territory was surprised by a Tiger Shark at the weekend. RIP. His wife seems very stoic, he died doing what he loved, nature’s way, it’s their territory type sentiments. I love swimming in the Mediterranean but am always nervous off Australia...
