He may do better after they start hatching and swimming around. Some males mouths are just too upturned and they're not as skilled at picking them up. Or maybe they're not even fertilized. For now you can just leave them alone,and/or gently blow them with a turkey baster (not with air, with water).

Tell him (sure, sure... :P ) to change his water more often, feed a bit less and cut his light time a bit. That should help. And here I am striving for green water.
