    Misconceptions About Fishkeeping?

That could technically be true. They literally grow as big as a 54L tank :lol:

    Newbie brain overload!

The worst part for me was the TDS 450+, GH 16+ and nitrates 40+. I had to swap to RO cause my cherry shrimp were not doing okay with my tap water.

    Newbie brain overload!

I checked online the town's water readings 2 days ago (I am using RO because I already knew the water here is very hard and the TDS is over 450) and oh boy it has so much stuff in there it made me a bit uneasy to even drink it.

It can get expensive, prepare for that too :)

    Misconceptions About Fishkeeping?

It's easy, they said, you will just need a bowl and change the water, they said. And here I am, I have probably spent £400 on my 18gallon and hours of reading and learning :rofl::rofl: EDIT: Now that I'm counting, it's over £500

Update on my betta and wanted to thank everyone that gave me all these great suggestions on my previous posts. My boy has recovered!!

My rescue betta was very underweight, had a strange lump on his head and a big chunk of his tail missing. The tail started growing and he put weight on. The lump was still there, so I decided to ask for identification and advice here. As advised, I started an antiparasitic treatment. Everything...

    Unidentified Corydoras Species

I don't know :lol:! On Google they are described as Napoensis.

    Unidentified Corydoras Species

    Replacement for gourami?

I like sparkling gouramis too, but I don't think they would suit what you're looking for since they are more like grey/brown with reddish fins, and they are smaller and more shy.

    Unidentified Corydoras Species

These are my salt and pepper cories. After a few weeks 2 of them are darker grey/brown, 2 are lighter pearly colour and the last 2 stayed the same.

    Replacement for gourami?

Honey gouramies are supposed to be more mellow and they are smaller. For the snail problem maybe assassin snails or pea puffers (these are territorial though so I don't know if you can put them in your tank).

    Opinions on Pro Shrimp (UK)?

I got sand and gravel from Pro shrimp, the delivery was super quick and the prices were lower than other websites. I haven't bought any livestock though.

    Idea for 10 gal, thoughts?

I heard nilocg thrive is really good too, that will be the next one I try once I run out of TNC.

    Idea for 10 gal, thoughts?

My personal experience with seachem flourish and flourite. Seachem flourish is not a complete fertilizer. It's more like 95% micro 5% macro. I did that mistake thinking that it is a complete fert. I have only very few plants at the moment (more being delivered the next few days) and the tank...

New salt and pepper cory gang in my 18gal betta/shrimp tank.

Yes, I already have a back-up plan just in case. They've been in there for almost 4 hours and everything looks normal.

New salt and pepper cory gang in my 18gal betta/shrimp tank.

I am so lucky with my betta. He just swam towards the bag, had a look and that was it. I knew he will be ok with other fish since he doesn't bother the shrimp at all but this is beyond my expectations. He might swim towards them but there is no aggression or chasing. I got 6 of them and the more...

    Phosphate in tap water

I am not sure, could be a coincidence. I read somewhere that raining and flooding can cause these issues, so I tested my tap water when there was heavy rain and the readings were indeed higher.

    Phosphate in tap water

I noticed when there is a lot of rain, all the readings go up. Maybe something to do with the plumbing?

    Phosphate in tap water

Same problem here in Hampshire area. Tons of Nitrates, silicates in the tap water, hardness around 14 Dh and TDS is always over 500, so I swapped to remineralized RO water.

Too long tail weighting betta down

The most traffic is when I go to make some coffee and I pass by but not right next to the tank and the lights have a 24/7 cycle. I have seen him being stressed in the quarantine tank but not in the main one. He is very mellow in general, and he will stay close to me when I am next to the tank.

Too long tail weighting betta down

In fact I got 20 pregrant shrimp, it would be handy if he ate more :fish::fish:

Too long tail weighting betta down

He is in a tank with 100+ shrimp and 6 nerite snails, He ate at least a handful the first 2 days on January, but after that he might chase but rarely.

Too long tail weighting betta down

Don't get me wrong he is not resting all the time, just more often than usual, I am planning to add way more plants and fish too, he has a 18gal with over 100 shrimp to chase around. He doesn't seem bored just ''heavy'' and might get a bit tired cause of the huge fins. I don't know how much he...

Too long tail weighting betta down

Yes I have a wide sponge filter, broad leaves and redmoor that goes all the way up on the surface, there is sand too. I might consider setting up a shallow tank for him, I jusr need to figure out where to put it since I have no space for a second tank right now.

Too long tail weighting betta down

I rescued him from a pet store because he was in a very bad condition (I went to buy other fish and came back home with him instead). If I had a choice I would get a plakat.

Too long tail weighting betta down

Now that his face is doing way better, I need advice for another issue. When I bought him he had a big chunk of his tail missing, around a quarter of it. I already knew it was tail biting because it wasn't shredded and there was no fin rot, but I thought it was because of the awful conditions...

Plant suggestions for half sand half flourite 18gal tank

I really like hydrocotyle japan but I have a feeling it doesn't suit my tank. I think I will move the heater next to the sponge filter and plant an amazon sword behind the redmoor ( need to find a new place for the big tiger lotus, maybe next to it). In front of the sponge filter I have some...

I thought you might find it interesting, cherries with blue saddles

I actually checked them in different light settings to make sure and the saddles are bright blue. Unfortunately I don't have a camera and my phone cant capture what I see in real life.

Plant suggestions for half sand half flourite 18gal tank

After 5 hours of catching shrimp, cleaning, changing substrate and rescaping it is finally done!!! Currently going through a mini cycle, and it's still a bit blurry (damn you flourite!!). I am happy with the result. I was thinking on adding some more plants. Maybe some dwarf hairgrass on the...

Weird lesions/bumps/white spot on the head.

I got another update, Double dose 6 days straight ( 27/02-4/03) seems to have helped and I can't see the lump at all anymore. Instead, I can see new scales growing and his sensory pits (finally!!). I waited for 48 hours and started myxazin. The swelling has gone down quite a bit. Fingers crossed...
