    Disaster

I've made three baby cardinals die since raising the temperature, is 30o too hot for them? Am doing a big water change as NO2 beginning to show on the test strip.

I need help with a broken light

Assuming that it's not structural glass and just a lid, you could replace it with clear plastic. It's not unusual, though, for the light to be "above" the water with nothing in between. If you want to be extra safe, you could get a submersible light - that way it won't matter if it gets...

    Moving Tanks and Fry

Just wondering if the dechlorinator you used is actually working? Be good to check NO3/NO2 levels in case it is cycling.

    Disaster

The new thermometers seem to be heating to 27o, I presume that's a good temperature with loaches in there?

    Disaster

There were 5, which I've replaced - the new ones are behaving much more normally. Sometimes they are hiding, sometimes that are doing the up and down a corner of the tank thing, sometimes they play dead. They are tiny at the moment, but I am aware that a bigger tank will be needed at some...

    Disaster

    Indeed - stats now: NO3 - 0 NO2 - 2 GH - 8 KH - 15 pH - 8.4 (maybe more, that's as high as the colour chart goes) Cl2 - 0 Is that too Alkaline?

    Disaster

There's no oil now after using some Prime. The test stick does not show NH3, and my liquid test is too old for me to trust it!

    Disaster

I've been keeping fish for many years, and have never experienced anything like what has happened this week. It is of course very upsetting. My tank is 4 foot, with plenty of plants and an external filter. I introduced some clown loaches, but they were incredibly shy - much more than I would...

    Relocating a pond

Preformed, some flex but basically rigid. Has anyone experience of moving one?

    Need a Cleanup Crew

Agreed. I had two CAE and didn't keep them long. I found they were aggressive, and kept sucking the other fish.

    Relocating a pond

I need to move our pond, which came with the house so I've no idea how old it is. It has fish (looks like goldfish and similar, up to 10cm long) and plants, and a filter. It has a good amount of wildlife! The liner is preformed, I believe 1500l. The liner is not level but otherwise seems...

    Dwarf hairgrass

Has anyone has any experience of dwarf hairgrass? I'd love to get the green carpet look in a tank that has soil underneath the gravel so it's an environment where plants tend to do well. Is there a better option, or anything I should know before buying/planning? Thanks, Mark

Thanks for the detailed reply @AguirreTheWrathofPlecos , sounds like a good system if you've the space for it! Mark

I was tricked, now I need guidance.

Í stopped buying those a few years ago as they always died too quickly, simply didn't cope after bring removed from the LFS which I found out was using a feed that contained antibiotics!

    A moment on genius!?

After years of fish keeping, countless journeys with buckets and trying other solutions, today I realised that a standard hose connector fits exactly both onto the outlet of the external pump in one tank and onto the 15mm copper that I'm using on a homemade filter in the other tank. This has...

    Making a filter

So here's the hopefully finished filter. It's a little noisier in place than it was in testing, but much quieter then the previous waterfall style design. Having the heater here hidden in the hood makes the tank look nicer, and a benefit I was not expecting is the air being drawn down. The...

    Making a filter

Hi, I'm making a filter to replace the one in the hood of a tank I was given, which is very noisy. First attempt worked well, but it is apparent that the over flow I'd used was too narrow for the flow rate of the pump. I'm now going to redo it with 40mm waste pipe. My question is: am I ok...

    Tank backing

Thanks all, my main reason for asking was to not have bubbles or gaps form. The Vaseline method looks good, agree will probably work better on the outside than on the inside!!
