Best animal to kill pond snails?

Overfeeding and lack of maintenance (algae and dead plants) will contribute to the snail population. I have a similar problem in my 50gallon. I purchased a couple of assassin snails but they are making a slow work of it. Assassin snails are the only animal that could go with a betta in a 5 gallon

    Too young to breed?

I have driftwood in the tank as well as the algae. I do feed bloodworms to the whole tank but I'm not sure how many are left for plecos. I could try overfeeding the tank but I think the snails would get to it first. I do water changes about one in 2-3 weeks. The tank is well established and...

    Too young to breed?

Alright that not too bad. I will talk to my LFS about the size requirements. Another quick question, how long until the female reaches desired size. The last two pictures shows the comparison between the two fish the best. I'm planning to feed them algae waffers, canned green beans and zucchini...

    Too young to breed?

The male is about that size the female is about 2inches. Roughly estimated. Also how long would it take to raise up the fry? I have been told all fry can be raised in 2-3months but I have been raising my blue gourami fry for way longer then that

I already talked it out with the store I got it from, they said they would be happy to take them. But thank you anyway

    Too young to breed?

Today I bought two bristlenose plecos, a male and a female. I was hoping to breed them and wanted to get the biggest ones they had. I got a relatively big male, however the female is significantly smaller then him. This one was the biggest one they had of the common black ones. I wanted to try...

    4.2 Gallon (16 Litre) Stocking

All those combinations should work. Shrimp require higher ph and harder water, so they won't do as well in softer water with low ph. You could keep the clown killifish without a heater, if the room is heated. They can go from 20-26°C.

    Whats the website called?

Thank you. Yea I know its not air tight but I do want to get a general idea of possible stocking options.

    Whats the website called?

I saw in the past that a few people recommend a website to help calculate the stocking levels of an aquarium. I have forgotten the name and would appreciate of anyone would send me the link or the name. Thanks

    Sweet potato removes nitrates?

I will upload a pic tomorrow, but you can check out MD on youtube he made a peace lilly betta aquarium and a shrimp bowl.

    Sweet potato removes nitrates?

I just set up a peace lilly aquarium, the roots are submerged and the plant is growing from the tank. It pulls nutrients directly from the water column. I guess the sweet potato has the same effect.

    4.2 Gallon (16 Litre) Stocking

You could safely add a betta in that sized tank, if there are enough plants and a heater+filter. The shrimp colony would do absolutely great in that sized tank and they would reproduce relatively quickly. You could also add some snails together with the shrimp or betta. Other then chilli...

    Possible angelfish pair

Ohh I didn't know what. I thought they mature at 6 months to a year. I will gladly wait longer to see if they pair up but what could be the reason they aren't pairing up (other then their age). I keep the tank at 27°, ph is 7.6, gh is 3°d, kh is 15°d, the light is on about 6 hours a day (split...

    Possible angelfish pair

I didn't want to get a pair of angelfish at first. I new I need at least 6 fish to grow up together and pair off but the tank wasn't big enough so I decided to only keep 2 because I like the fish. About the sex of the fish: Those where my thoughts as well. I'm just curious why haven't they...

    Any plant or decoration recommendations?

I have heard that it works fine form DIY hobbyists but I never tried it on my own. You would need to let the wood dry before soaking it again, but even if it absorbs some bleach it won't be much. However I agree that is more risky then boiling or a salt bath.
  23. N

    Any plant or decoration recommendations?

Boiling your driftwood isn't absolutely necessary. You could just wash it and scrub it properly, and leave it in a random bucket to soak for a few days so its water logged. You could also soak it in water and bleach solution (20min) or just a slat bath for a day or so. I agree with what has...

    Help with stocking

Oh ok if the guppies are males you won't get any babies. Honestly I were you I would take 6 or more guppies back and replace them with more members of the schooling fish you have. I would say that its not overstocked but definitely get more plants to keep the nitrates in check.

    Possible angelfish pair

So I have a 50 gallon aquarium with two angelfish. I'm not a 100% sure about the sexes but I think the koi is a male and the scar diamond is a female. The fish are about year and a half old and have been in the tank together for a year. They were bought as juveniles. I have been told that if...

    50 gallon stocking ideas

Hmm I see. So I could not add distilled and then tap water straight away? That complicates things by a lot but I don't have a need to do it. Thanks for sharing the information tho!

    50 gallon stocking ideas

I fully agree. The dithers are there to provide security. I don't have any experience with keeping dither fish but I have heard others use them as a distraction as well as a security measure. I was about to make another post for the angelfish, because I'm not sure about if they are a pair or not

    Euthanize advice

I'm sorry to hear it. You could let it pass away the natural way. If its really 6 years old it shouldn't be surprising. The most humane way to euthanize fish is using clove oil. Take the fish into a separate tank and pour a few drops in. I don't know the exact formula but I'm sure someone here...

    Help with stocking

First for our American friends: the tank is about 29 gallons First of danios, mountain could minow (gold or white) and all cories are schooling fish which means that they have to be kept in groups of 6. You could probably get away with 4 or 5 tho. 12 guppies is a lot considering that you will...

    50 gallon stocking ideas

Thank you I didn't know you could use distilled water. I'm guessing there is a formula to how much to add per gallon or something.

    50 gallon stocking ideas

I understand and agree with what you are saying. We can't change the temperament of the fish or their nature and some of them are more aggressive than others. What I meant by dither fish is that appisots and angels have something to chase around which is faster than them, so they are occupied...

    50 gallon stocking ideas

The blue gourami was never a problem, considering that they have bread in the community tank. I know that the gouramis can be aggressive, but I never found them to be the problem. The angle fish are perfectly fine in the tank, but I saw some aggression from the male. Speaking of genders I'm...

    50 gallon stocking ideas

The kh of the water is about 15°d and the gh is 3°d. The ph is about 7.6, but if need be I would add almond and catalpa leaves to lower it.

I have a fully cycled 50 gallon tank. It is set up for over a year and fully planted. I currently have two angelfish and a blue gourami. I wanted to add more fish and here are my suggestions A pair or a trio of appisots 2/3 bristlenose pleco A school of bigger teras Danio Hatchetfish I...

When did you get into breeding fish?

I have a brine shrimp hatchery (DIY) and hatch and feed brine shrimp daily. I will try and feed them more often, as I normally only feed them once or twice.

When did you get into breeding fish?

Thanks, I have been doing most of the things that you said. I will get some plants so I can feed more and help with the water quality. I will check out the link maybe get some new information. I guess my issue is the feeding consistency. I try to feed 3 times a day, but often times 2 out of...

When did you get into breeding fish?

I wouldn't say that being inexperienced means the breeding fish isn't for me. It is a side of the hobby I'm very interested in and would like to explore further. That said it's not a high priority for me right now. To be fair I also didn't intend to breed fish when setting up my tank, it just...
