    What is this?

I think you’re right. Fish store just sold me 8 and told me they were assassins. Think they are ignorant

    Slow

That ain’t it. Looks like I’m done with this website
  5. J

    Slow

It’s none of those things It’s happening on all my devices. Hmm…. I wonder
  6. J

    Slow

About 2 months ago I was given 5 warning points and also the website hasn’t worked right since then. I have to wait 3-5 min after I click on anything on the website. Is this my punishment or is there a bigger problem? Just this website, no other. Hmm….

    Cory

Carpet plant with Cory cats? Will not having sand to sift through affect their health?
  8. J

    Plant nutrition

Do nitrates provide all the needed nutrients for plants? Or are they lacking in something that root tabs and liquid ferts offer? this is a comparison between nitrates and tabs/liquid fert so if u can leave CO2 out of it that would be helpful, thanx
  9. J

    Trate

I know 0 is best. That aside, I’m reading below 20, below 40, ppm nitrate is good for most freshwater. So which is it? I know there’s exceptions. I’m talkin broad. So is 40 any worse than 20?
  10. J

    Neon

A school of 10 neons in a 40 long will behave differently in a 75 long. They’re both healthy, just act differently. So bigger isn’t always better.
  11. J

    Pullin trates

Will Amazon sword plants pull the same amount of nitrates out of the water if planted in sand as opposed to a larger pebble gravel?
  12. J

    Bad water

Chicago water tastes and smells disgusting. Should I give up fishkeeping or are there fish that can handle it? Or should I buy spring water for water changes? Oh yeah I tried letting it set for a day and two and still smells and taste the same.
  13. J

    Tiger

Can you supply these facts? I doubt it
  14. J

    Tiger

    Five isn’t alone is it?
  15. J

    Tiger

They probably act differently in even larger shoals in the wild. Or maybe not. So what’s that say?
  16. J

    Tiger

Based on I’d like to see those numbers you speak of
  17. J

    Tiger

Indeed, some studies are full of holes
  18. J

    Tiger

People say on here fish are more stressed in the wild so 5 tigers in a 20H would be paradise no?
  19. J

    Tiger

Doubt they’ve done studies like I mentioned. They probably should. Death is important. After they study what I’ve suggested they can classify happiness too
  20. J

    Tiger

A happy lone fish? Hmm, interesting. I’m having doubts about that.
  21. J

    Tiger

I’ve seen it Of course they act different. But are they healthier? I wouldn’t say for certain. Unless long term studies are done recording deaths of different number groups then I guess it’s all guessing for now
  22. J

    Tiger

I thought captive bread are different than wild. Or so I’ve been told on here. People said on here captives usually never grow to the size of their wild counterparts. So are your theories on tank size and stocking numbers based on captives or wild?
  23. J

    Tiger

So if u want to have a variety of fish species that are bigger than neon tetras then one has to have a 50-60 gal tank is basically what you’re saying?
  24. J

    Tiger

So 6 more inches in tank length and 10 more gallons of water is fine for 12 tigers but 5 in a 20 H is cruel? This doesn’t add up really unless keeping 5 in any size tank is animal cruelty.
  25. J

    Tiger

Is it animal cruelty to keep 5 tiger barbs in a 20H?
  26. J

    Stunt?

I’m keeping 6. I guess what I’m getting at is That I’ve noticed a lot of people on this website getting on others for keeping fish in too small a tank. Like you said there’s a lot we don’t know. Everybody justifies things differently.
  27. J

    Stunt?

Well like someone here said there’s often a difference between captive and wild size. Guess it’s just the way it is. I’ll opt to believe they’re all happy
  28. J

    Length?

So what you’re saying is the number of schools depends on the size of the tank? So one school would be fine in a 3 foot tank. People should clarify that. They’re always quick to jump and say a school of 5 fish that are 3-4” need a six foot long tank,
  29. J

    Length?

    Distributed? Eh.. not really
  30. J

    Stunt?

Looks like I’ll never get these answers so I’ll just play dumb and think they’re 100% happy
  31. J

    Stunt?

I have many friends who kept these. None ever reached 6”.
  32. J

    Length?

I got a six foot long tank with several schools. Thay Don’t really swim 6 feet all at once. They usually tend to swim in one to two foot patterns. I Don’t see why these fish wouldn’t do just fine in a 4 foot or even 3 foot wide tank. So why all emphasis on long tanks?
  33. J

    Stunt?

  34. J

    Stunt?

If you were to take them from a hatchery and put them in the wild would they not reach 6”? They probably would. If this is so wouldn’t it be considered stunting their growth if they top off at 4” in a tank?
  35. J

    Stunt?

that’s why they’re in a six foot long tank. So do u have an opinion if it’s cruel to be stunted at 4”?
  36. J

    Stunt?

Mine are in a six foot 4” max. 4 yrs old I was just referencing some tanks. So what’s your opinion to my question?
  37. J

    Stunt?

So giant danios get 6” in the wild and 4” in a tank. Should I not keep these in my six foot long tank? Would it be considered cruel?
  38. J

    Gph recommended

How many gph would you recommend for a circulation pump on a 20 gal housing fish that like strong current?
  39. J

    Algae benefit

I did the whole new tank Cyanobacteria syndrome gig for a month or so but it’s well established now at 4-5 years. I got black beard which I think is cool.
  40. J

    Algae benefit

I usually scrape green algae off the back of my freshwater aquarium glass every couple weeks but I decided to let it grow out a bit. Does anybody know what I have have to look forward to? Does it turn brown, die off, then new growth? Does it get thick? Etc. oh FYI it’s a petsmart complete...
