    Do Lights Matter?

in my experience, two super brights = lots of algae. Thats whi i have one super bright at the back, and one day-light at the front. Also, the super's see to increase the reds in the fish, and the Day increases the blues, so it can be great when my fish swim from back to front to see the...

What New Fish To Get Hmmmmm.....

i would be tempted to get rid of a few more (as you suggested) and get some bigger fish. As for what kinds - im not sure. I think a couple of cichlids would look great, but they may not be compatible with your dither fish

    Thinking Of Going To Sand...

well im running an external, so maybe i'l just move the inlet higher up the tank a bit?

    Thinking Of Going To Sand...

I give my gravel a good vac every water change, so i double its that filthy. Im sure there is some muck i cant get to right at the bottom, butb thats not a problem... SimoUK - thanks for the thread

    Thinking Of Going To Sand...

So you think emptying the gravel will make just as much mess as adding sand? Maybe i will gradually get rid of gravel - see if i can get it to a bare bottom tank doing usual water changes, and then dump in the sand (obviously i would take the fish out at this point...)

    Thinking Of Going To Sand...

Hi, I have got gravel in my Rio 240, and am thinking of converting to sand... The issue is that i have already stocked the tank, so my plan would be to put them all in a bucket, get rid of all the gravel, re-scape with sand and call it a day. But - i have no idea how long this is going to take...

    Common Pleco - Feeding

mine usually gets leftover pellets from the fish, but twice a week or so i give him some proper catfish pellets, although they really cloud up the water! as for veg, i give him the tops and tails of whatever we're eating and if he doesnt eat them within a few days i fish (!) it out... He agrees...

    Naughty Plec?!

:( Just found the poor chap. He had got stuck in the powerhead (left over from my Juwel internal). i only found him when the other of my Sevs got caught in the same place :( I have had fish in this tank for months and no-one has had any issues with the powerhead, and then i lose 2 in a...

    Naughty Plec?!

Recently i bought 2 green severums. But one has now vanished... The only thing possibly big enough to get away with this is Big Willie, my 7" common pleco. Have they every been known to eat little fish? (my sevs cant be bigger than 2". maybe 1.5") The only other thing i can think of is that...

    Question About Externals

My 305 would be fine, but the lid can be a bit sticky. So your yanking on this thing for it to come off, then it does... you fly backwards... water goes everywhere... On the note of walking it to the sink: a) how much water does your filter hold? b) how many small buckets does it take you to do...

    Odessa Barb Keepers

Mine must be getting close to a year old now. I would say they are very close to 3" exc. tail. They are one of the bigger barbs i have got, along with my Golden and Rosey ones I would definately recommend, but dont be supprised if you cant "virtually put an open grasped hand around the whole...

Adding An External Filter Alongside An Internal-Help!

Why not rip out the internal anyway? I dont know my eheims that well, but im guessing that would be plenty of mechanical filtration for a 125L. I have got a rio 240 with a Fluval 305 external. I ripped out the old internal, but kept the powerhead just for added motion

Which New World Would You Most Like To Keep

I like the look of the above Hero. Would also like a true Hero Severum. Rio 180 - Norwich

I was hoping for £100 Also, please note i wrote Beech cabinet in the original post. I don't know why i did this. As you can see from the photos, it is 'Dark Wood' effect (i think thats what Juwel call it. Kind of a walnut / mahogany colour)

    New Tank Suggestion

Hm. Well i trust my LFS so i will go ask them if its an efasciatus or true severus. but im guessing its the latter... edit. meant former Any visible difference between the two when they are juvi's?

    New Tank Suggestion

Ah. as always, it seems my googling was inaccurate. I was under the impression that green sev = hero sev, and that 55g was the min for a pair... usual max size = 8" - 10" (rarely 12")
