i would be tempted to get rid of a few more (as you suggested) and get some bigger fish. As for what kinds - im not sure. I think a couple of cichlids would look great, but they may not be compatible with your dither fish

well im running an external, so maybe i'l just move the inlet higher up the tank a bit?

I give my gravel a good vac every water change, so i double its that filthy. Im sure there is some muck i cant get to right at the bottom, butb thats not a problem... SimoUK - thanks for the thread

So you think emptying the gravel will make just as much mess as adding sand? Maybe i will gradually get rid of gravel - see if i can get it to a bare bottom tank doing usual water changes, and then dump in the sand (obviously i would take the fish out at this point...)

Hi, I have got gravel in my Rio 240, and am thinking of converting to sand... The issue is that i have already stocked the tank, so my plan would be to put them all in a bucket, get rid of all the gravel, re-scape with sand and call it a day. But - i have no idea how long this is going to take...

mine usually gets leftover pellets from the fish, but twice a week or so i give him some proper catfish pellets, although they really cloud up the water! as for veg, i give him the tops and tails of whatever we're eating and if he doesnt eat them within a few days i fish (!) it out... He agrees...

My 305 would be fine, but the lid can be a bit sticky. So your yanking on this thing for it to come off, then it does... you fly backwards... water goes everywhere... On the note of walking it to the sink: a) how much water does your filter hold? b) how many small buckets does it take you to do...

Why not rip out the internal anyway? I dont know my eheims that well, but im guessing that would be plenty of mechanical filtration for a 125L. I have got a rio 240 with a Fluval 305 external. I ripped out the old internal, but kept the powerhead just for added motion

Apart from the one female Rottie, do your sevs get on OK? Am thinking of having a 5ft Sev tank myself (when i can find the right space in the house! oh, and the money...)

Getting to know my new Sev's

my current tank (Rio 240 - 4ft) fits nicely between the wall and the fireplace in our sitting room with probs 4-5" left to spare so can't really get a bigger one :( unless i rip out the fireplace! ;)

well based on that, i would say i have got two females - either than or its too soon to tell...

Ah. as always, it seems my googling was inaccurate. I was under the impression that green sev = hero sev, and that 55g was the min for a pair... usual max size = 8" - 10" (rarely 12")

hm... so 2 with a few barbs might be OK? that changes things
