    Discus Tank Size

I don't know Discus that well, but a point about your 1 / 10g rule - you say min tank is 55g, but i would say more becuase of their large size (or just a more square tank?). if i had discus in my 55g tank, i doubt i would be able to do a 50% water change without them getting grounded!

Juwel Rio 180 For Lake Malawi Cichlids

what fish mix well with the Pseudotropheus demasoni? i like the look of them, but would rather have a mixed tank Also, how big to Kenyi get? would they (on their own) be suitable in a heavily rocked 180L?

    Here We Go

clown loaches will soon out grow your tank. i fell for that one myself! If you want something a bit different to Tetra's, you could have a look at Barbs (thats what i did!) - i think they are nicer fish, but that comes at a cost - they are a bit agressive and nip at fish with long fins (eg...

    Tank Idea?

On the knowledge that my Rio 180 (180L) is probs too small for a breeding pair of JD's, im thinking of other ideas. How does this sound? 4 - 5 Acara (not sure whether to get all males of differnet colours, or maybe 2m+3f?) 8 - 10 shoaling fish (something like tetra) 3 BN Plecos My original...

    Fluval Edge Or Birob?

the other day i was having a rather stupid conversation with a friend that started out talking about putting a tank through my wall and ended up designing a whole house made up of tanks (as i said - got very silly) But... one idea that stuck with me (still pretty stupid) was an aquatic bath -...

    Fit For Jd's?

Hm. Although its tempting, i think i'll have to take your 300L advice instead of the 180L 'possible' - im still quite new to the fish keeping world and dont want to dig myself into a hole...

    Fit For Jd's?

At present, i have got a 180L community tank (mainly barbs) Me being impatient, i am always thinking of what i'll do next. My initial plan is to have a Malawi tank, but now i am looking into american cichlids and getting a bit interested! I have read a few topics about JD's and thinkb they look...

    Aquatic Reviews Website

i would like to see reviews of online fish stores. My LFS's are not that great and am thinking in the future i might have to search on the www to get the fish i need, but this is not something i would want to do unless i can see some good reviews - whether buying parts or livestock

    Which Tank For Which Fish?

all fish will be posted at some point Alright - not all - but how do you think LFS's get their stock? But im afraid it isn't something i have done in the past, so cant recommend any... Keep an eye on things like E-bay and the classified ads on here though

    Which Tank For Which Fish?

[sorry if this is double posted. i think my internet is being odd] How big do Deniosn barbs get? i have always liked these but thought they were too big for my 180L. Im sure they would look great in a 350L though!

    Which Tank For Which Fish?

i think your bala shark might be a mistake as well. They get pretty big and are much happier in a shoal. Same with teh clown loach... Personally, i would agree with having the 4ft as a Malawi and the other as a community. But if the corner one is bigger (im guessing it is, if its 4' X 3' X 3')...

    Malawi Cichlids :)

Syno has given a starting list of species you could add. But I would avoid crabro & damesoni as they are quite aggressive and could be problematic. Thought i would join in!

how long have you been up and running for again? it could be that everything is going according to plan. Im sure others would disagree here, but surely if your tank is dealing with ammonia (and later sorting out your nitrates/nitrites) then thats good - whether its your filter or your plants...

    Water Query

also most people will say the 'additives' in tap water will be beneficial to your fish / plants. If you really cant be bothered with de-chlor you can leave tap water for 24h in a tub or something and the chlor will evaporate, so if you were planning on buying giant bottles of water, you could...

    Lets Help Newcomers!

my additions arn't so much mistakes, but general advice. The first thing i learnt about fish keeping is still the most important: Look after your bacteria and your fish will be fine (obviously this isn't 100% true, or even close with things like compatibility [sp] or illness, but i still think...

    What Type Of Lightning?

i dont see any reason why you cant use fittings that dont have an aquatic brand, but i would make sure they dont get close to water (even condensation) so as said previously, get a condensation tray or make one yourself.

Long Time No See - Ideas?

I have been half tempted by those bumblebee Goby's before, but im glad i didnt give it! in my LFS, they are in a tropical community tank... sounds like thats not what they want at all!

    Starting My First Fishtank

some substraits such as coral rock react with water over a long period to change characteristics such as pH or kH. My use of buffering was probs the wrong word, and its been a while since A-level chem, so in short: some things can change the pH in the short term, but after a water change or...
