No way, huge is great. My preference would be shrimp instead of snails. But just my preference. They won’t use the same space as your betta and are good with plants and clean up.

I really like smaller loaches. My khuli loaches are active non hiders who love climbing plants like miniature pythons. They’re also a fairly healthy critter that does well in groups. They’d do fine with either a betta or neons. Though I bet that betta would like ruling the 10 by himself...

Definitely just as it would for any animal, having sick or dead animals around exposed to new illnesses. This is one of the reasons I don’t feed my cichlids feeders. Also worth having a cheaper aquarium as a temporary tank for new fish to watch for illnesses before adding to new tanks

Forgot to mention my 90 population 3 rainbow cichlids, 1 fire mouth, 2 bn plecos (1 standard, 1 albino), also have temporary kuhli loaches. Loaches had to be in there as an emergency tank change, though they seem pretty happy . Cichlids I have show zero interest in them.

Lot of good advice here. I would add that a lot of plecos species react to water level and temperature changes as a breeding signal. I think I remember this being related to natural rain and drought. Maybe he’s getting ideas?

I wouldn’t expect small amounts of beneficial bacteria to be particularly dangerous. This probably happens naturally in small amounts from time to time and we never know. I also suspect that one night is unlikely to kill a whole tank load of bacteria .
