dwarf gouramis or other options for office community tank?

I wasn’t suggesting it for you and gourami are still problematic with black skirts

dwarf gouramis or other options for office community tank?

All these are true but I’ve got some radical ideas for you here. 1 Seriously give away the neon to someone or a good store with neons, 2 forget gourami they’re especially bad with skirt tetras and do terrible in pairs. 3 sounds like people like the skirts but they’re hard to see and don’t offer...

    What tank to get?

I’d go with pseudo tropheus saulosi. Intense variety of colors in small freshwater fish

    Glo fish aggression

I’m not sure I would say it takes a long time to grow out a pleco. If they’re kept well, I’ve had them maxed out in a year.
  8. W

    Electric yellow tank mates

Normally I’d agree, but I’ve heard of Mbuna attacking the eyes of plecos. I think plecos can be pretty good in hard water even though it’s not as natural.
  9. W

    Electric yellow tank mates

My concern is more that these cichlids are more harassing of plecos, but that just my opinion
  10. W

    Electric yellow tank mates

I would discourage plecos. Really like rusty though

Do tetras need to be in a school?

I’d say they’re at higher risk for stress and disease, so they absolutely need each other. While I get everyone talking about group safety and fighting etc. this is not the only reason they school. Socialization is so ingrained with them that many types even move together to maintain safety from...

how to convince my parents to let me get another tank!

Note: must not allow daughters in this forum

    Hi Folks

I’d look at gourami more. They have a lot of similarities with angelfish, even though they’re not related. also they take up less space and do better with small schooling fish. Pearl gourami are really pretty and can be hardy as can blue gourami. I find them to be the Asian version of angels...

    Glo fish aggression

Agree with all of this except the plec. I often keep a pair. also needs a note on temperature issues
  15. W

    wood shrimp

They don’t need much meat though. Sharks despite the name eat much more plant life then animal protein. Yo-yos primary food source is invertebrates

Is all purpose sand okay for fish (mollies)?

You could still do a basic water change with a vacuum to get the light stuff
  17. W

    Going well, so what's next...

Or you could just use the filter for your new tank and run it in your other aquarium as a second filter for a week or so. It will start picking up stuff in its sponge or whatever.
  18. W

    Going well, so what's next...

Yes sponge could be, so could charcoal, floss, bio balls, or to a lesser extent even decorations and plants.
  19. W

    Going well, so what's next...

Yeah that’s pretty much the way. I use a 10gallon, but I suppose it depends on the size of fish you plan on having in the future. if you add your healthy filter media it will cycle very quickly, basically already be cycled, BUT make sure any water you add is already dechlorinated in the new...

    wood shrimp

It’s a tough tank yeah, lol. My money is still on the loaches getting them first. They’re purchased specifically to kill invading inverts a lot
  21. W

    wood shrimp

I personally wouldn’t trust yo-yos not to mess with them, but that’s me. Even if they don’t eat them they might harass them enough for them to give up. They’re pretty tough on invertebrates
  22. W

    How to breed kuhli loaches

It’s considered a difficulty to breed fish. I’d look into a variety of environment issues. Definitely need a soft substrate. More hides are good with only a minor current. Medium to soft water is probably ideal

    Questions with stocking 29 gallon

If you’re concerned about hardness but want small colorful fish, I’d take a look at cherry barbs. Barbs are more forgiving of hard water. They have a nice pretty look and are pretty active. note : gourami will also eat shrimp
  24. W

    Going well, so what's next...

Personally I’d wait out the month then add a couple more of your tetras. ive used shrimp before and their major benefit is that since they eat so much junk they prevent as muchammonia as they could produce in most tanks, making them a safe choice for newer tanks, plus they’re fun!

    Tank upgrade 15G --> 30G I got Questions!!!

Amazon has a pretty good supply of bulk water plants. Might be worth checking out.
  26. W

    What can this be?

    And loaches

    Tank upgrade 15G --> 30G I got Questions!!!

I’m not sure how many fish you have, so that would effect my answer..but peaceful guys might be ghost shrimp, mystery snails, or just bigger tetra schools. Congrats on the upgrade! if I can make a suggestion, it might be a good time to expand live plants
  28. W

    What can this be?

I don’t think you provided enough information to know much. I’d at least want the number of each fish and the size of the tank. It doesn’t look like nipping to me but I don’t think anyone can know without more information
  29. W

    What can this be?

Looks like it’s had high ammonia , but could have been a past infection. Fins look damaged. I wouldn’t be surprised a Cory would be sick first. Guppies spend very little time at the bottom where detritus is so avoid some bacteria there. Plecos have virtual body armor and IMO it takes a lot to...

I’ve kept things with them successfully years ago, but that was and I think you’ll find most examples are, in a larger tank.

Questions about setting up my 90 gallon tank again...

If you do go industrial, which I have done, pool sand is way smoother then blasting sand. I’ve used both. Pool filter sand is processed more to do its job. Some blasting sand even has chunks of glass in it. I can literally feel the difference with my calloused hands, so I’m sure the soft small...

    Mixing Cichlids???

I had an acara at one point (massive jerk), rehomed. I think you might be able to mix keyholes with rainbows. Keyholes are very peaceful
  33. W

    Mixing Cichlids???

Ok cool. I will say there is occasional interplay between firemouth and pleco- mostly just funny
  34. W

    Mixing Cichlids???

I’m not sure on sex of rainbows, but I’m not breeding them. I know they can pair off indefinitely. The firemouth is a male. He is the dominant cichlid but most of the time doesn’t seem to feel the need to show it. He was more into chasing when things in the tank get moved around. Basically he’s...
  35. W

    Mixing Cichlids???

My 90g community has 3 rainbows with a firemouth, no major issues. Also houses 2 bn plecos and small loaches as temporary residents

That’s what I was referring to, but sometimes I’ve seen betas get upset with any fish that spends too much time bouncing around the top regardless of fin lengths

    Planning ideas for future paludarium

    What’s in the water?
  38. W

New to the hobby - few questions

Betta not generally compatible with guppies or goldfish. Betta do best with softer water then the other 2. Also betta are not super social. If the goldfish are still present, there’s a decent chance of them outgrowing the tank

4ft betta tank - Complete build

Looking great! If you wanna add more non fish, shrimp would be pretty chill
