    Paludarium ideas

No way! It can be totally cheap. Only as expensive as you want it to be. If you grab some soil branches and grass seed, add water paludarium!

    Paludarium ideas

My tank idea is more invert based, I should add. I didn’t list any large aquatic plants because I don’t want my bugs climbing off their islands

    Paludarium ideas

I’m think about doing the same thing this summer! We should keep in touch for ideas. The tank I’m thinking about is my empty 55. Plants I’ve been looking at are air plants and believe it or not bean sprouts . So why those? Ok here’s my theory air plants are both beneficial and easy. They don’t...

Id plec and whats this orange thing

Is the orange on him or under him, and is this the only pleco in the tank?

    Challenging my black thumb

Nice! Yeah this is what’s on my 90. fish seem pretty calm with it. I don’t use the thunderstorm setting because... it’s weird. It hasdifferent intensity of white or blue light. And the fish seem to respond positively to the setting that allows the light to slowly fade on and off. Less startle...

    Challenging my black thumb

My water is definitely hard btw. My central cichlids like it though

    Challenging my black thumb

this is the light I have on that tank, yeah no real red that I know. It does have a fade setting which is nice so you can set it to imitate clouds and lighting changes. It’s strong enough to reach bottom but probably not full spectrum

I’m pretty sure that light is not made for plants, do you think it would work?

Newbie here, and have cherry barb feeding question

Yeah that’s fine, most barbs are only a step away from being bottom swimmers so if they wait for it to fall not a big deal. Some barbs like to eat vegetables so pick around plants might be nibbling the plants themselves

    Challenging my black thumb

Ok so I should start by saying this is for a future project not my main tank now, though if I got it figured out who knows. I’m looking for tall plants ( for either a 55 or 90 gallon tank) that can do limited light and ideally a sand substrate. Current light is a Satelite LED, which is not...

    Stocking my 60 gallon tank

Bristle nose plecos are pretty well known for doing well in wide ranges of water hardness. That’s one of their more positive traits
  16. W

    Stocking my 60 gallon tank

Frankly I don’t do it, but reverse osmosis and peat moss are the most popular methods. If you have safe rain water (test it) that may be an option
  17. W

    Stocking my 60 gallon tank

Yeah rams don’t like hard water, I’m telling you lol, google saulosi they’re super bright and you could probably do several. Electric blue acara could handle harder water then rams, they have some of that electric look of the rams. Meaner though

    Stocking my 60 gallon tank

Africans not so great with loach. It really sounds like you want Africa here, so I’m gonna throw you an idea. Pseudo tropheus saulosi. It’s a 2 in 1 fish. The 2 sexes look like different species! there are some African cats in the synodontis group that can do well with them
  19. W

    Stocking my 60 gallon tank

I have K loaches myself and love them. They are small though if that’s an issue. synodontis does well with Africans . Plecos do great with central and South American cichlids much of the time. If you want a single cichlid with personality, firemouth does great in that tank and could be kept with...

    Stocking my 60 gallon tank

The guy at the store is nuts. Lol you sound like me. Yeah there’s tons of fish that fill a Cory cats role,. I prefer small plecos and loaches myself of which there are a variety. Cory often do poorly with most cichlids imo.

Can I add anymore fish to my tank?

Personally I would say no but if I could give a suggestion. There are hundreds of types of tetra with varying shapes sizes and aggression levels, so you’ll want to list a species

Trying again after 38 years or so...

Hello and here’s a website tip: avoid ‘the Spruce’ their pet tips are embarrassingly bad.
  23. W

Is my water OK to return a fish?

Lol, bad water. That wouldn’t be the cause of a sharks aggression. If you need future help with matching fish feel free to ask. In a large tank sharks can have tank mates, but they tend towards either sturdy semi agr3ssive guys or quick schoolers.

Is my water OK to return a fish?

Also that’s a pretty terrible combination in general. How big is the tank?

    Pet Smart 5 Gallon

I personally don’t think any animal belongs in something that small, but that’s just me

    Male & Female BN Pleco

Yeah you could try that just make sure there’s plenty of filtration to both sides. There’s no guarantee of which cave he will choose, but if necessary you can always move the eggs if they’re laid in a container. I’ve even successfully move the father and eggs to a temporary 10 gallons with bubblers.

    Do snails kill shrimp?

Their burst can propel them several inches. I’d look around the tank
  28. W

    Do snails kill shrimp?

Is it a possibility that they can get out of the tank?
  29. W

    Do snails kill shrimp?

    No. I believe they’re herbivores

    Check This Out!

UPDATE: I went to my pet smart today and they are not carrying bettas. They also have a large sign that warns people that fish bowls are bad and that goldfish need large tanks and should live a long time. I can’t pick on my local site at least.
  31. W

    Check This Out!

My concern is that new fish folk will think that since the bettas are part of the glofish line, that they could be kept will all the others

    Getting fishless cycling started!

You can also feed small amounts of fish food, yes small, to keep something slowly breaking down. Everyone does this differently

    Help with larger tank.

Ha you beat me to it lol, yeah having a vet tank is handy
  34. W

Do tetras need to be in a school?

Yeah I’ve had a lot of experience also, if they’re in a situation where they can’t even breed, I wouldn’t consider it thriving. Personal opinion I know. But a lot of tetras group breed. With schooling behavior scattering eggs and fertilizing them. most group animals, not just fish, act very...

    Male & Female BN Pleco

They are excellent fathers! I had to watch out for other fish in the past. I had an aggressive barb that was trying to swipe eggs from an ornament and he was on the inside roof of the ornament, literally dropped down like a scene from alien and for lack of a better word , “threw”the barb out and...

    Male & Female BN Pleco

Having bred tons, mine generally doesn’t fight unless it’s a different species too near the eggs. Having said that, If she is goofing up and trying to eat the eggs, he might.

    Cleaning Th e 90

Since I haven’t shown anything, I decided to pick the worst time for pictures, tank maintenance lol. Anyway this is the mostly Central American tank, with little loach immigrants until they get moved , not looking forward to trying to catch them again!
