I like ember but everyone tells me they’re softer water

    Shrimp school

I’m looking at X-ray tetras, but I might need something bright if I went that route since they don’t have loads of color nor do the ghost shrimp, other ideas totally welcome

    Shrimp school

Yeah I plan to do a small group of guppies or mollies but really want a school

    Overstocking a Planted Tank

I wouldn’t with danios, but for a different reason then I suspect you’re asking. Your filtration is probably great, but danios love space. They’re super active and really need room for active swimming.

Do you have to clean aquarium pipes?

I’m gonna add something different: besides algae and bacteria build up there are other issues. I have hard water, so preventing unsightly calcium build ups can be a thing too, also depending on what you keep , some animals- loaches, fry, snails will on rare occasions try to get in these things...

    Shrimp school

Show fish ideas are great too, but not many get along with shrimp, which is mandatory
  9. W

    Shrimp school

    Yeah like I said it’s flexible, would probably be a 55 or 90, one day I’d like a 6 foot but that’s a dream right now :)

    Shrimp school

Looking at possibilities of safe schooling fish for future to go with my ghost shrimp colony. Tank size is flexible, water is moderately hard. Bonus points for any of the following: hard water safe, interesting color, zero interest in shrimps, tighter schooling. Ps no likey neons

    Best food for pleco?

Most plecos are not exclusively plant eaters. What type of plec are we talking about? Mine like occasionally dark leafy greens.

    Asian fish

I think I’m realizing that the answer is there aren’t a lot of Asian schools that do well with both gourami and sharks for a variety of reasons
  15. W

    Asian fish

No I wasn’t asking about more then 1 shark. I was asking about more then 1 medium sized fish. I didn’t want more then one shark. As I said, I wouldn’t keep danios with gourami. That’s why I was looking at alternatives.

    Asian fish

Weird aquatic community has them rated a whole level higher

    Asian fish

Are you reading my notes? Lol I’ve been looking at 5 banded barbs! I’ve kept a variety of barbs types in the past and figured tigers might be too nippy with gourami fins and golds might not be fast enough with a shark. I’ve heard mixed opinions on danios with gourami, night try them anyway. I...

    Asian fish

I like white clouds, but I think they’re too cold water for sharks and gourami, so I’d need another main fish

give me name ideas for this momma cray

Sorry your all wrong the answer is crawmom, cuz she’s not quite a craw dad

    What the heck happened?

I agree that this is no cycling issue. 3 hours for a few tetras? I don’t think they could produce enough ammonia in that time. suspect salt

    Dwarf guarami problems

Been thru this years ago. It’s the breeding, not all on you. order of operations would be move the fish, if it can’t be saved. 2. waterchange 3try something like melofix, remember to get rid of any carbon filters first. 4 when the treatment is done, another partial water change. And you’ll...

    Asian fish

These guys look great, just not sure I can get my water soft enough, hmm
  24. W

    Asian fish

Yeah, almost all my tanks are that big lol. 90 gallon tank is what I’m looking at. So I NBC wasn’t too concerned with the 5 inch, I’m looking at a choice for a school and a top swimmer. I think I’m looking at dropping the orange anyway. I hadn’t realized that they only color up occasionally
  25. W

    Asian fish

Actually I’ve never done Rasbora. Can they handle medium -hard water or are they strictly soft? I mean I know some are listed as soft that actually do just as well in medium but I’ve got no experience with them

    Asian fish

If I had a shark and gourami- differed zones, the other part would be what schools would be compatible with both? I’ve had tiger barbs and would be concerned with them nipping the gourami and I’ve heard danios annoy both. Thoughts? I like cherry barbs but I think they’re a bit small with a shark
  27. W

    Asian fish

Right, so like if it was a 90 with a shark the question would be could there be other bottom dwellers
  28. W

    Asian fish

Sand with some stones, tallish plants in some areas, a couple empty coconut shells as possible hides, tak will either be 55 or 90
  29. W

    Asian fish

    Red tail or rainbow

    Asian fish

I’m looking forward to a future Asian planted tank. Yes I have too many project ideas! Fish or other critters would have to be ok with plants. I’ve looked at gourami, orange chromide and or a shark as a central large fish, more then 1 if possible. I’m also looking for a school. Question1 is...

    Looks tinfoil to me 2

    is my tank okay?

Depends what you mean by cleaning, in a tank that size (too small) I’d use a turkey Baster to suck junk out of gravel , don’t actually rinse it if you don’t have to. I’d swap to a 10g when you can. It will use the space.

    New Tank Advice?

I’m not sure I can agree with this. I did a community with betta and never had an issue. I think they are challenging but not impossible and there’s no guarantee they’ll kill anybody. I don’t think there is any evidence of them having issues with snails either. as for the idea previously...

    New Tank Advice?

I’ve done betta in community successful even without a community I would still get it out of a 5. 5s aren’t good for any animal in my opinion. 29 I’d look at ghost shrimp to maintain plants in the tank, plus they’re fun. java ferns look nice with them imo.

    Paludarium ideas

Crabs are always tempting. there’s a few species that even climb plants, if you build a straight up paludarium! Or you could go with a relative and have a mixed tank of crayfish with tree frogs ! That would be sweet.
  37. W

Fish died within 24 hrs but not in a different tank??

I agree with all of the above and will just add that neons are not a good choice for hard water
  38. W

    Paludarium ideas

I’m just making my own with an old tank I originally got on Craig’s list. Most of the stuff that makes it expensive is going to vary on what you keep. My inverts would be blown away by a big water fall for example :) If you build it yourself it’s much cheaper. And can look better
