tank still running along nicely. Have started some low fert additions as I added some floating moss that required it. Also found some almond leaves at my lfs so I have one in there melting away. He seems like a pretty happy chap :)

sorry for the delayed response. Yes essentially need your water, I used to breed them when I lived in London. The water is perfect. Unfortunately they are not community fish

can you advise your water parameters as a starting point. Namely ammonia and nitrite? how big is the tank and what is in it? it could be an illness or something as simple as she is about to have babies.

Just doing some night obsevations. Is it normal for him to almost wedge himself into a plant and sleep? It almost looks like he is using the leaves as a hammock?

I have some flourish left over from my last planted tank, it was co2 injected so I didn't fert much. Is it worth getting iron etc supplements?

Little update, added some plants. Have already noticed a change in him, swimming through them and resting on them, looks really pleased.

Back from Vegas and the cycle finished. Did a 90% water change and went to look at bettas. I originally went to get a koi but spotted a stunning dumbo I couldn't leave without. He seems quite happy and accepting a variety of foods. So far so good :)

I used to keep heavily planted tank so can likely provide some advice. Do you know what type of plants you want? Do you want a carpet etc. Let us know your vision and we will try to help

Welcome :) Before we can really help what is the hardness of your water and the dimensions of the tank? As this can change the suitability for the fish. I don't think any of us can assure you the tank will be fine on the 2nd floor. Only way to know for certain is engage a structural engineer...

do you guys think 3 weeks shoukd cycle a tank of this size? Reason I am asking is I have sourced a breeder of koi halfmoons and he is a fair way away. The only day I can really go is the day after I get back from holiday.

Thanks for the tip. It is floating in a stocking so removing it isn't a big issue. I am slightly confused. The amount of food I have added has the tank at 2ppm ammonia and nitrites have just started to kick in. How would using ammonia to 1ppm be different?

for a small tank like this I cant really be bothered. Plus its a pretty limited volume tank without a stone background taking up space
