    180 Litre ideas

I would strongly reccomend against neon tetras. Get Cardinal Tetras. I had Neon Tetra Disease destroy my entire stock despite rigorous removal of any infected fish and huge daily water changes attempting to remove any trace of it. Cardinals are very similar colouration.

    Neon Tetra Disease cure experimentation

The issue is NDT is inside the fish. It eats from the inside out. The UV wouldnt penetrate the skin of the fish or the flesh.

    Neon Tetra Disease cure experimentation

Ah excellent news Luc1fer. Steven F - Similar life cycle but not necessarily as weak to the same treatments?

    ND Aquatics vs Juwel

Yeah sorry I didn't mean actual chemicals but filtration of chemicals (carbon). Didn't know carbon wasn't needed fulltime.

    ND Aquatics vs Juwel

Haha yeah the Juwel comes with lighting and filters and heater so that's probably an extra £350-400 but for nearly doubling the capacity I can live with that. As to decor etc - was going to be pricey in 450 or 700-800 litres regardless so tit for tat in some respects. I was also planning on...

    ND Aquatics vs Juwel

Yeah I have the room I'll just chuck the dining room table away  Budget not too much of an issue either (not being cocky just wont put a price on doing the hobby properly). Yeah I come from a Juwel family - they are fantastic tanks, such a shame they only do a 450 litre max size. Well I...

    ND Aquatics vs Juwel

Anyone experienced ND Aquatics? I was going to get a Juwel 400 (450 litres) but it is £850 ish. ND Aquatics do a 700 litre tank for similar pricing. I am aware I would need a fluval fx6 or similar which is another £300 odd but TBH the bigger the tank the better and I can't pass up a 700 litre...

    Quarantine tank

Hi Byron, For peace of mind I do want a quarantine tank. I have had mixed results from both chain and independent fish shops. Will have to get a list of good ones in Kent.

    Quarantine tank

Ah Okay, that makes sense. I was overthinking it methinks lol. I shall be getting one just in case.

    Neon Tetra Disease cure experimentation

Lyra - I will be avoiding neon tetras for the rest of my fishkeeping life. But it does seem to affect other fish too so we'll see. Luc1fer - excellent live data to be had. Mind stating your quarantine tank size etc? We should calculate the LEL/HEL theraputic dose of the tank and also redose it...

    Neon Tetra Disease cure experimentation

So. Personal one this - in 2009 my tank got NTD and ruined my passion for fish keeping. I am back and ready to fight it if it rears its ugly head again. NTD is a Apicocomplexa parasite, similar to Malaria, but seems to eat through muscle tissue rather than having a lifecycle in blood cells...

    Quarantine tank

Hi All, My understanding of Quarantine tanks are twofold 1. When new fish are bought - put them into quarantine to ensure they are disease free and doesn't become a vector for your current tanks community. 2. To remove a fish that has become ill to disallow passing it onto the rest of the...

Oh I am sure the members here have answered it well Jen but I'll have a look. I remember this forum being an invaluable source of information and gave me a good near 2 years of perfect fish keeping - until I decided to get some neon tetras and it all went down the toilet - quite literally.

    Mixed substrate

Hmmmm. Yes the fish will rescape it more than likely... Will have to have a long think about this one. It could end up looking either fantastic or a right mess

Ah yes! I did a fishless cycle before and it was certainly more successful than fish cycles. I shall read up on the progresses made. I always love real plants in aquariums anyway so always had planted tanks by aesthetic choice but nice to know it has functional uses too. Feeling all excited...

    Mixed substrate

Hi all, I plan to make a very diverse community tank (no worries on overstocking will be a 450 litre/100 gallon tank) However certain fish prefer smaller/bigger substrates and even flat slate setups. Has anyone ever mixed substrate so certain areas are pebble rock sizes, then gravel sizes...

Hi guys, used to frequent here back in 2007-2009. My tank got incurable NTD even after meticulous care before, and during it all and kind of lost the passion and interest. Bought a new house recently and a good big tank will suit it nicely. I shall be posting the usual newbie questions again...
