I used black construction paper on the back of my 5 gallon tank.
On my 29 gallon tank, I bought a black background sheet for the rear of the tank.
I like the look of black backgrounds as it makes the plants and fish pop.
Once your tank is fully cycled so that ammonia and nitrites are always 0, then 50% water change once a week would be sufficient as long as nitrates are less than 20 ppm.
Do you know the hardness of your water? You can usually get that on your water supplier's website. Neon tetras like softer water. Mollies and swordtails prefer harder water.
Dwarf Gouramis often carry Dwarf Gourami disease. I have never had them last for more than a few months. I've had 3...
your tank is most probably not cycled yet...too soon to be cycled
Your now going to have to do the much more difficult fish in cycle
It may help to add some fast growing plants to help absorb ammonia and/or nitrates/nitrites.
how long have the fish been in the tank?
It's always safer to cycle a tank before adding fish.

I wouldnt think it would have plastic as the bottom flat piece if the rest is glass. Maybe it has plastic trim around the edges of the bottom flat piece but the bottom piece should be glass.
