    Are plants eating my nitrates?

We don't have a sponge filter in there right now, but I have the sponges from my established shrimp tank I can put in there... it was planted though, so I'm not sure how much beneficial bacteria is on them. I'll keep testing it every day or every other day. My thought was that we'd be seeing...

    Are plants eating my nitrates?

There's only plastic plants in the tank we took from. And about 7 big fish (5-6 in) and 5 small fish.

    Are plants eating my nitrates?

I read the post about silent cycling. That's partially why I was wondering if my tank had in fact cycled or at least partway. I attached a pic. There's 5 plants in there, but they're not fully grown.

    Are plants eating my nitrates?

I did not clean the ceramics lol. They went straight from the established tank to the new tank still dripping wet from the filter.

    Are plants eating my nitrates?

Sorry, 40b is 40g breeder. We used a mesh bagful of ceramic media that's been in our established tank for almost a year. In addition some of the plants came from an established tank, so likely had some bacteria on it. We tested for nitrites, but unfortunately only today so I can't tell if it...

    Are plants eating my nitrates?

Set up a 40b a week and a half ago. Added quickstart and filter media from one of our established tanks (been running almost 2 years). Added a few small fish to help with the ammonia to feed the bacteria from the filter media, and about 5 plants. Just tested our water today, and there's 0s...

    Cyst on fish

Hey all, long time no post. Well one of my glofish danios has what looks like an erupted cyst on the side of it. Pretty nasty looking. I put it in a hospital tank and salted it. Is there anything else I can do for my fish?

What kind of loach is this?

Thanks everyone for the help! I never knew that the labels at pet stores could be so generic or off.
  14. Skeptical_Mutt

What kind of loach is this?

We do have one that has a spot that looks like yo but none of the others have it. I wonder if we got one yoyo and the rest zebra?
  15. Skeptical_Mutt

What kind of loach is this?

It does look like this. When I Google botia histrionica it appears to go by the common name golden zebra loach as well. Certainly confusing! As long as I know the approximate size and that they're all the same I'm happy lol.
  16. Skeptical_Mutt

What kind of loach is this?

here's one of the babies we bought today. Still golden zebra?

What kind of loach is this?

That's what I thought too, just wanted to make sure. The two we bought from Petsmart today were under the name yoyo loach, but they're identical. They're babies so they're small. I'll try to get a good picture of one of the babies
  19. Skeptical_Mutt

What kind of loach is this?

So we did all of our research and decided on golden zebra loaches. We bought 4 initially but lost one, so now we have 3 left. We just bought 2 that are identical to our zebras, but they were under the name yoyo loach. I've read online (including past posts on this website) that sometimes they...

    What are some colorful fish?

I might get dalmation mollies, I forgot about them but I've wanted them from the beginning
  22. Skeptical_Mutt

    What are some colorful fish?

Tank dimensions are 48L x 12D x 24H. Ph works out to a stable 8. I know the water hardness is 12 but not sure what the unit of measurement is. We haven't started cycling it yet so it'll be a little while before we add fish.
  23. Skeptical_Mutt

    What are some colorful fish?

I was thinking about that, but will it be aggressive to my other fish? It seems like I've got a very peaceful arrangement right now and I don't want aggression causing stress

    What are some colorful fish?

    Ooh, how pretty!

    What are some colorful fish?

So we went and ended up buying a 60g tank recently. We're going to stock it with our current tank (5 GlassFish, 2 platys, and 3 zebra loaches) and add another platy and 2 more zebra loaches once it's cycled. I'm looking for suggestions of brightly colored fish to add to it. I love looking at...

    Neon tetras and danios (GloFish)

Ah, a fellow Glofish lover! I have 3 tetras and 2 danios right now (had 5 tetras and 4 danios but had some deaths) in a 20g right now. They're about to move to my 35g long here soon, so I'm excited to bump their numbers up. I definitely love the colors!

    MTS is real

    It's an obsession, for real.
  28. Skeptical_Mutt

    MTS is real

So MTS is a real disease. I currently have a 35g going and a 20g going, both with fish. We are buying a 55g on Wednesday. Doh! So now we're researching more fish to put into the 55g...

Do Let This Happen To You !

Far too late for me lol. I started with a 10g, then bought a 35g, now I also have a 20g. Only the 35 and the 20 are up and running, but hubby wants to do a planted tank in the 10g

    Platy bullies, what to do?

I too have a bully platy in my tank. When I had 3 platys he would chase one of them around. When that platy mysteriously died he settled down a little.

    Cory catfish

Yes it was, I think we messed it up by adding them too soon maybe.
  32. Skeptical_Mutt

    Cory catfish

Sounds like they should be alright on smooth gravel but sand is better. Thanks everyone! We'll figure out the substrate first before we get anymore Cory's

ANOTHER KIDDIE POOL GUY WITH RARE FISH. The dregs of the hobby.

That's horrible! I had no idea people would do this to sharks
  34. Skeptical_Mutt

    Cory catfish

I'm wondering if the gravel we originally kept them on was too rough for their barbels? We got 4 originally to start with and lost 3 pretty quickly. We just lost the last little guy yesterday.
  35. Skeptical_Mutt

    Cory catfish

Hi all! Me again. We've not had good luck with our cory catfish and I'm wondering if anybody has ever kept them on smooth gravel substrate with any luck? We're considering switching substrate to a smaller round gravel or sandy substrate if that would help. Thanks.
  36. Skeptical_Mutt

    You keep Danios?

Lol I have glofish danios in with glofish tetras in a 20g tank. They're active little swimmers for sure. I feed them tropical flake and freeze dried bloodworms
  37. Skeptical_Mutt

    So I did a thing...

You got me with living room strobe lights!!! And yeah, j have noticed that they tend to do multiple tanks of the glofish. The PetSmart and Petco by me have a decent variety of fish, but I have been into stores that have a much larger variety when there's fewer glofish tanks.
