It was from a private seller. But the 2nd tank hasn't had the same happen so I've removed the driftwood for now and placed it into a bucket and did another 100% wc for now. And I do wash my gravel and substrate too!

Thanks for your input! I've got another tank that's exactly the same from the same seller which I've just added water to, to see if it may be the aquarium seals. If not I'll begin the process of elimination with the tank in question. I'm also at a loss of what could be causing the black water...

That's a good idea/point, I've just never seen tannins that turn the water black instead of tea coloured particularly with spider wood o_O I just added a bag of purigen to the tank to see if that helps/ if it is tannins

Yes I think I will most certainly add to the existing dwarf rasbora school! I have two rifle shrimp which look similar to the bamboo shrimp or could even be the same just called different names based on appearances. Those lizard twig catfish look amazing!! I've not seen them in Australia but...

I really like both, I've had black sand substrate which imo looked amazing: nice and "moody" haha. I have also used white sand in my last few builds and this of course is the opposite effect. My one dislike about light, or white substrate in my case, is the poop. Oh man, the poop is crazy...

The bigger the better always!! I had one of my bettas in a 4ft/260Litre and he love love loved it!! I will say that I have now moved him into a 75Litre because he started having trouble getting to the top for air, as some have already mentioned, so longer less high tanks would probably work...
