Setting up a hospital tank for fin rot

Ok I’ll get a new filter and swap the sponges. By doing this will I be able to move my betta straight into the new tank? I’m very worried about moving him and stressing him out too much or there isn’t enough good bacteria yet. I’ve only been doing this a year but haven’t lost any fish so far...

Setting up a hospital tank for fin rot

Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely try that. I knew some tetras nipped but I was told by lots of people including on here that ember tetras should be ok. I guess you never know though! I use sponge filters so don’t have any filter media to set up a new tank quickly. Would it work if I got a...

Setting up a hospital tank for fin rot

I use a sponge filter. Would it work if I got a smaller sponge filter for the new tank and left it sitting in my established tank for a while? If so, how long would I need to leave it before transferring it to the new tank?

Setting up a hospital tank for fin rot

No he’s with 6 corys and tetras. He’s been with the others for a year and has been totally fine. I think he may have started ripping his fin on some drift wood I put in a couple of months ago. I’ve taken it out now.

Setting up a hospital tank for fin rot

I think my betta may have fin rot as his fins are looking pretty ripped around the edges. Im doing regular water changes and using aquarium salt first. I know I can get medication if this doesn’t work, I was thinking of moving him to a smaller hospital tank if he doesn’t improve. Do I need to...

    Green/brown water from driftwood

It’s sort of green/ brown ish and is definately much worse because of the log because even with just the water in the bucket it was VERY brown every time I changed it. All the plants I’ve currently got are doing ok but I’ve not had much luck with fast growers 😂 I do need to get some floating...

    Green/brown water from driftwood

I’ve had this piece of driftwood (middle) in my tank for a few months and since it’s been in there it’s making the water look so green!!! I soaked the wood for two weeks changing the water every few days before it even went in and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Is this normal? When I...

Green hair algae & cleaning tips

I’m not using fertilisers. And it’s summer here so that makes a lot of sense!! I work nights actually so a lot of the time my blinds are closed during the night. I’m not sure what intensity my bulb is, it came with the tank. I’ll try and find out. It’s been fine up until now though so hopefully...

Green hair algae & cleaning tips

Thank you so much for your advice. I’ll definitely reduce the food then 😂 I thought I was doing alright because I do have a small snail population that aren’t over breeding so I assumed I was feeding the right amount!

Green hair algae & cleaning tips

Before I start, I realize I should've taken a 'before photo' of my algae situation, but I didn't think about posting here until I'd finished cleaning. So the photo attached is the after photo. So a couple of weeks ago I noticed green hair algae growing on a couple of my plants so today I...

    Frozen brine shrimp vs bloodworms

I have ember tetras, cory's and a betta in my 105l tank. I was thinking about adding some frozen food to their diets. Is there any nutritional differences between the frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp? I'm mostly thinking about the frozen food for the betta to be honest, I was thinking...

Why are my moss balls stringing out?

Are you sure its not algae growing on the moss ball rather than the actual moss ball its self? If so, I assume it would be a case of treating the algae. I'm pretty new to fish keeping but have been doing a LOT of algae research over the last few days to try and work out what some of mine is.

    Things growing on wood.. identification?

After some more research im pretty sure the black one is black beard algae. I still can’t work out what the little stringy bits are though

    Things growing on wood.. identification?

I’ve noticed two different things growing on the spider wood in my tank. These little black dots and the light colour stringy bits. I do have black sand which I initially assumed the black bits were but they look slightly smaller and darker than the sand. A lot of it is attached all around the...

    Fat ember tetra chasing others

That’s a relief. I researched for months making sure all the fish I was getting would work in a peaceful community so I think I panicked a bit when it looked like they were fighting! I wonder if it’s just as they’ve aged a bit more they’re just challenging eachother a bit more then? This big one...

    Fat ember tetra chasing others

I’ve got one fat looking ember tetra chasing other ember tetras away from the middle of the tank during feeding time. Everyone else is getting along fine, it’s just this one that’s being rude. It’s also quite fat and slightly larger than the others so I’m not sure if it’s a female about to lay...

    Confused by cycle

I went through all this a couple of months ago, I tried to follow the method on here perfectly but definitely made some mistakes! Everyone on here is SO helpful though. Water report - brain overload !

I'll let other people advise on the fish as I'm only a couple of months into fish keeping my self! Wood shrimp stuck in filter. Please help!

After failing to find a good enough solution to prevent them getting back in, I've set up a sponge filter for when I manage to get them out because I don't want this to keep happening. I tried to get them out last night.. every piece of the filter I removed they got into another part. They have...

Wood shrimp stuck in filter. Please help!

Thats a good idea thank you! I'd only be able to get a net in there if I took the filter cartridge out, I'll try and leave it near the hole they're coming in and out of. There's 2 in there, I know they're both ok because I can see them walking about in there ?

Wood shrimp stuck in filter. Please help!

I think in the UK they seem to call them wood shrimp but they are bamboos yes. I’ll leave them for a few days then. They’ve climbed in the holes that the water comes back out of and flows back into the tank. Would this be ok to put a sponge in or not?

Wood shrimp stuck in filter. Please help!

I don’t have the pre filter sponge no, I’ll order one now. I just had the filter how it came. The gap that they’ve climbed in is the gap that the water flows back out of. Once they’re out I can raise the filter out a bit so they’d have to actually climb out of the water to go back in there.
