    Breeding rack

Just blacked out the backgrounds with vinyl wrap. First time doing it but i think it came out pretty good! I've pretty much got everything i need to at least start putting in substrate but first i want to get some plywood cut to make a base for each level of the rack.

    Breeding rack

Yeh there's not many fish shops that stock them here and from what I've seen there's only 1 breeder who actually advertises when they have them. That's why they're so expensive.

    Breeding rack

From what I've seen it's pretty simple. Get a male and female, put them in a planted tank, feed them live/frozen high protein food and do regular water changes. I hope it's that easy because they sell for $200 per fish and it's gonna be expensive to start up!

    Breeding rack

I've watched a few videos on pea puffer breeding, doesn't look all that difficult. That's exactly what i was thinking with the hardscape! Would look pretty awesome.

    Breeding rack

We're back into lockdown in Melbourne so I've finally got my butt into gear and started putting the puzzle pieces together for my breeding rack! Bought 3x 60x30x36cm approx 70L starfire glass tanks, 3x sponge/media filters, 3x cheap ebay spec LED lights and 3x Aquaone 100w heaters. All I'm...

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Have been noticing ALOT more baby shrimp in my bowl over the last couple of days, some look like they're just hatched they're sooo tiny and others look a few weeks old so there must be a few batches in there. Guess It's a good sign the water quality is perfect!

    Walstad Jar

Finally brought it into work and set it up at my desk! The light is just temporary, it's warm white and i don't like how it makes the jar look. I've got a white light LED lamp coming!

Guess our imagination is bigger than the space and budget we have lol

    Walstad Jar

Yeh of course. I just decided against that layout because it didn't leave much room for planting stems.

    Walstad Jar

Plants came in today so i got to it straight away. I think i went a bit overboard with the order so I've got heaps of leftover which I'll end up putting in my community tank. Here's the end result! Looks a bit messy but I'm pretty happy with it so far. I've got it sitting on a lazy susan...

At least 10 fish species killed in drinking water spill on Comal River

I never drink water straight from the tap. I have an AceBio water filter which removes chlorine, fluoride etc from the water.

    Walstad Jar

This is my first attempt at a proper walstad method tank so I'm keen to see how it turns out too! Light and plants should arrive this week so I'll update when it's all done.

    Walstad Jar

I ordered some plants online for the jar, not sure how i'm going to fit this all in but i'll give it a go haha Whatever i can't fit i'll put into my community tank. Alternanthera reineckii 'Mini' TC Bacopa monnieri Cardamine lyrata Eleocharis acicularis Hydrocotyle tripartita Japan Limnophila...

Here goes - Tank Two - Low Tech/Walstad style

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses. I've got a fascination for the filterless walstad tanks these days

    New Walstad Tank

I'm just about to set up one of these too. I think you can do a few water changes at the beginning to clear up the water then just top off water when it evaporates from then onwards. Keen to see how your one turns out!

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Loving the growth of the plants in this bowl. The water sprite ended up floating so i just left it and now it's grown roots which have reached all the way from the top of the bowl to the substrate. There's even some emersed growth from the water sprite which is pretty cool. Dwarf hairgrass is...

    Holes in leaves

I'm doing 40% water changes weekly. I've cut back the tops of the plants with the holes so i'll see how the new growth turns out. Yeh this crossed my mind. i've actually got some ambulia and milfoil that is bare down the bottom and i thought about hacking them back and replanting the tops...

    Holes in leaves

Thanks. I'll get some Seachem Potassium and start dosing the tank. Is it best to cut back the plants that are affected and let them regrow?

    Holes in leaves

I'm starting to get holes in the leaves of my Hygrophilia Blue Stricta, does that indicate a deficiency of Potassium or something else? The holes are appearing not on the new leaves but old ones. I dose API Leafzone weekly and I've got Seachem root tabs in the sand. No Co2 injection.

    Walstad Jar

So I've settled on the layout. I'll have a carpet of dwarf hairgrass at the front and I'll do mini dutch style in the back section with stem plants.
