Put a base layer down and threw a couple of pieces of driftwood and rocks together and this is what I came up with. I'd put a layer of sand on top, some epiphite plants on the wood. This would be a blackwater tank so there would be leaves and sticks littering the ground too. I'm thinking I...

Thinking i may set up one of the spare tanks as a blackwater tank and just have the apistos in there on their own. I've never done a blackwater tank before but from what i've read indian almond leaves will help get the water tannined up?

pea puffers are freshwater species. I could set up another tank and use some media from my main tank filter to instant cycle but i've got the puffers on their way already so i'd have to do it pretty quickly! I might put the apistos in the community tank for now and then set up one of the...

If I manage to find some I definitely will have a go at breeding them. For now the Apistos will keep me busy! Pretty sure all Apistos are dwarf cichlids.

    Breeding rack

Went to the fish shop today to try to find some apisto cacutuoides super reds but they only had the albino variety so I skipped them and got a pair of agassizi double reds instead! Here's the male. And the female Male grabbed a snail soon as he got in the tank which I was pretty happy about...

Thing is i have 2 more tanks on the rack i can set up so i could always put the puffers in one of those if i need to or i can move the apistos to my community tank.

So the tank is finally cycled and ready for fish! Ph 7.4 Amm 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5.0 And I found a red cherry shrimp which I have no idea how it got in the tank! Must have some how hitchhiked on a plant or something. Well it's still alive so I guess that's a sign the tank is ready for fish...

It's literally just an LED desk lamp I got from Officeworks. Think it's about 5w but I could be wrong. Does the job either way!

    Walstad Jar

Yessss Sunnyspots that looks awesome! You could definitely put shrimp in that. I've got no lid on mine, the water level is even higher than yours and I've had no shrimp jump out! Go for it!

My mayaca fluviatilis has gone crazy! Actually everything kind of has. Shrimpies have heaps of biolfim and organic matter to munch on so they're doing really well too. Now vs 7 weeks ago I've actually only done 2 water changes on it since I started it. Otherwise I've just been topping it off...

    New Tank Setup

It's good that you're on here trying to learn to do things properly. My first tank was an absolute disaster, added substrate, added a shell and some plants then fish went straight in, way too many fish for a tiny 14L nano tank 🤦‍♂️ they're all in fishy heaven now. God bless them.

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

OK I think my bowl is becoming over populated with Red cherries! There are so many babies of all different ages and it looks like my females are constantly berried! Might have to relocate the adults back to the community tank lol. I also added about 9 Crystal Red juveniles into the bowl and it...

    Walstad Jar

Try those little ceramic pots that some fish stores have, they seem to do the job! As far as your shrimp fanning they usually do that when they are berried with eggs. Can you notice any eggs on her belly?
