plants should come in next week as well as the light so i'll have some more updates once it's all done!
Will probably set it all up at the office, i think if i set it up at home and brought it to work it would get wrecked in the car on the way in.
So I'm going to have a crack at doing a planted, filterless bowl for my office at work. Must admit the inspiration came from MD tanks haha and also i've always wanted something for my office but just didn't want anything that will be high maintenance so a filterless bowl sounds appealing...
I've been spot dosing with Flourish excel and that seems to stop the BBA from growing and spreading but i've only got tiny amounts of BBA right now. I've let BBA take hold of previous set ups and it was an absolute disaster so now whenever i see those little tufts popping up i straight away hit...
If you want colour make sure you get a female too. My Ram was super colourful when i had the female in with him then when i took her out he lost his pazzaz.
They're a stunning fish though, you'll love it!
They can be a tricky fish to keep alive. I had a group of 5 Rams and 2 survived, this male and 1 female which i sold.
My water temp gets to a max of 27°C.
He's doing ok but just last few days his colours have faded. Still eating but there's something going on with him.
If you want a similar...
Added some violet alternanthera in the back left corner today and also some dwarf hair grass in the foreground to see if i can get a bit of a carpet going. The shrimp are funny, they are so inquisitive they jumped onto the hair grass as i was still planting it haha
In my 22gal I've got my GBR living with a school of harlequin rasboras and a honey gourami. All of them seem to get along! GBR does like to chase away my red eye balloon tetras though. Think he just likes to see the little fatties run!
The GBR is the most aggressive fish i have in the tank lol he's the one who chases the little fat balloon tetras and corys around. Also the tank has heaps of plants so line of sight can be broken very easily if he wanted to hide.
27°C
Tank mates are honey gourami, BNPs, corys, harlequin rasboras, red eye tetras and kuhli loaches.
Kh and Gh is around 50-100ppm
Last thing that was added was 8 panda corys but that was about a month ago and he was fine up until a few days ago.
I've noticed my German Blue Ram has looked a bit dull lately. He is still eating but colors are nowhere near as vibrant as they used to be. Haven't noticed if his poo is white or anything but his stomach does look a little deflated. Is he deteriorating?
Yeh i guess the tiny ones would get snapped up pretty quickly. Grow them out and then see how they go. It's always going to be a risk putting shrimp with fish but if you give them enough plants/hiding places they might find a way to survive.
My opinion is if you don't want to do water changes then don't keep fish. You can't own a dog without cleaning up its poop (well you can but it's disgusting), you can't keep a bird in a cage without cleaning out the bottom of the cage when it gets dirty so it's the same with fish. Just make an...
I let the parents do the work. They fan the eggs with their fins to keep them from going mouldy.
I only took the parents out after the babies hatched because they were preparing to lay even more eggs and i would have been overrun by babies.
If you're going to breed Angels be prepared for LOTS of babies! I had a pair that bred once and made over 100 babies in one batch. Took a few months to get them to a size i could sell.
