What Fish Do You Regret Buying?

I regret buying feeder fish for a Spiny Eel that i had....he never touched them and they grew up into a pack of vicious rosy barbs that nipped the hell out of my angels fins!

    Is this too many fish?

I've got more fish than that in a smaller tank, also heavily planted. All my fish get along and the water quality is perfect. I think it really depends on the fish you keep, the set up of the tank and filtration. There will be some that will flat out swear by the inches per gallon rule but i've...

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Yeh the extra ammonia is also good food for the plants too so hopefully i'll see some good growth over the next couple of weeks. I'll still wait until the ammonia levels are down before adding any livestock though. It's super easy to do and very cheap too as you only need small amount of...

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

It looks like it's already done (Nitrites 0ppm Nitrates 5ppm) but i think the amazonia soil is leaching ammonia. I've read it can leach ammonia for a few weeks so i guess i'll just have to keep testing it every few days and be patient.

So it's day 3 of cycling the bowl and my nitrates and nitrites are down but ammonia is still up! Going to do a water change and check again tomorrow.

    Fluval Aquasky 2.0

I switched my cheap ebay spec LED light for an Aquasky 2.0 a few weeks back. With the cheap LED i never had any BBA but after switching to the Fluval i started seeing little tufts of BBA appearing on the rocks and heater. So i removed all blue/green/red light out of the settings and have been...

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Ok i think i may need to get a small heater for it then. When winter hits the water temp will definitely drop below 20*c. Was hoping to get away without one just so there's no cords hanging out of it but ah well, shrimpies come first!

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

Yeh i think i made the right choice with the rocks. Will be easier to maintain it without that big rock in there. I'm going to run it at home for a while just until it's settled in and cycled then i'll move it to my office at work. Not sure if i should get a heater for it yet. Anyone know...

Vote Now! March 2021 Tank of the Month Contest (16 gallons and smaller)

Just finished my planted bowl! No idea how many gallons it is but it's definitely less than 16g! It's filterless so I'm trying to do the Walstad method. Eventually i want to add some red cherry shrimp but for now i just want to get it cycled and make sure it all works. Substrate: ADA Amazonia...

    Pleco Appreciation Thread

I had one of these King Tiger Plecos! He would always hide and i never saw him eat so i was worried he'd just waste away but he somehow kept growing and became more confident to come out. One day he disappeared and i still have no idea where he went! I blamed my pictus catfish for eating him...

    Planted, filterless Shrimp bowl

I'm thinking of using some smaller rocks so you can see more of the spiderwood. The big rock was probably a little too big for that little bowl.

Here are my Calico BNPs. One is definitely a male and i think the other might be a female as she's much smaller and doesn't have the bristles on the nose. Great little fish that are always munching on algae!
