    Angelfish with sunken in head

I have no idea if this applies, or not, but we see a similar appearance in dogs (and rarely in cats, ferrets, or a few other species) when they get an autoimmune disease of the masseter (chewing) muscles on top of the head. It is called masseter muscle myositis. The body attacks the muscle...

    Help ASAP please

I’m sorry for your losses. How long ago did you add the new fish? Was it just in the last few days? Ich just does not kill that fast. There is something else going on and it is most likely a water quality issue or possibly some kind of toxin introduced into the tank. Taking pictures of the...

Remove rockwool from plant roots, or leave it on?

If you pull the bulk of the rock wool off, then you can gently swish the plant roots in a container of tank water and usually most of the rest will come off. I have even held the roots under gently running tap water (traces of chlorine won‘t hurt the plants a bit) to get the rest off.

    Stocking??

Sounds like a lot already. If you stick with the 1” per gallon rule a 10 gallon shouldn’t have more than 10” of fish. Even if we count each kuhli as only 1” since they’re so skinny (I would recommend counting them as at least 1.5”) they’re still 5” or more inches worth, plus a dwarf gourami is...

    Fish dying

Maybe you could sneak a couple fish out and be like, “Oh, I forgot to mention? I found a couple more dead! So sorry!” Lol! [shrug]. “I don’t know what happened. I’ve been changing water like crazy since I realized the nitrates were at toxic levels. Maybe now there are less the rest will do...

    Fish dying

That’s a starting place but it’s definitely overstocked. Believe me, I know about overstocked! I’m dealing with about a jillion Jack Dempsey babies! I have crazy amounts of filtration but my nitrate numbers are still higher than I want despite frequent water changes and all my filtration...

    Hello, All!

I‘m still trying desperately to figure out what to do with them all! I went from a single 55 gallon tank, bought a used 29 gallon to start the grow out process (did I mention they bred only 5 weeks after I got them?). Got a used 46 gallon bow front to add more fishy real estate. Then found a...

    Hello, All!

It was interesting and exciting to watch the courtship, and especially the parenting (they were phenomenal first time parents!). Oh, how I wish I only had to deal with 50! I’ve sold that many to just one of my lfs’s! I’ve sold 475 in a couple batches (slipped a few extras in for him) to a...

    10 gallon parosphromenus deissneri breeder

I’ve been reading this thread and see that you will need leaf litter. I have gallon bags of live oak leaves and would be willing to send you a bag for free just to watch this build unfold and assist in breeding an unusual fish with special needs. I see you’re in Texas, I am, too. Where in...

    Hello, All!

I have dropped the water temp a bit but I’m concerned about their overall health if I drop it too low. The male developed some fuzz on a pectoral fin when I tried dropping the temp the first time when they were still together. So I’ve dropped some, but only a bit. I have no idea the age of...

    Hello, All!

They are in a 75 gallon tank, but divided so they can’t mate again! I desperately need to clear out all these baby Jacks and I’m open to any and all suggestions! It is a less than ideal situation for them since they don’t have nearly as much swimming space as they should have, but I just can’t...

    Hello, All!

I’ve kept fish since 1975, but took about 8 years out of the hobby and I’m catching back up on things recently. I took over care of a pair of Jack Dempseys and a couple common plecos (both males) that were in a very neglected tank. They did so well I now have around 800 fry still to clear out...
