    Breeder net fail??

I do but even then, that's a risk considering that I won't be able to feed them properly when the adults hog the food. When my dad had guppies, he said a net worked fine for him. Plus, even with cover they don't stay hidden too well as I see them swim in the open.

    Breeder net fail??

I know but the ones in my breeder net are gone so I'm not sure if I should put any more in there.

    Breeder net fail??

I thought they needed feeding as much as any other fish, where overfeeding is worse than underfeeding. If I leave the fry, I have left free range I can't do that many feedings without the adults getting it all.

What do you use for temperature?

Mine is on the very far side of the front, it doesn't really block anything but algae. I can check the temp with the degrees on the heater itself or the temp stick on. I used to have cold-water fish, so back then I didn't need to worry about the risk of heaters. When I moved to tropical fish, I...

    Breeder net fail??

I didn't mean that on purpose, more so I forgot and that I don't know how to clean it without bothering the fry. I didn't mean for it to be as cruel as it sounds, I genuinely did want to save them. I just fed them a few days ago.

What do you use for temperature?

I heard that heaters could break easily, but mine has a 15-year guarantee so I'm not too worried about it. It has the temperature on it but that can be a little hard to read, so I have a stick-on external temperature marker. Idk what else I'd use. The heater lights up when warming up the water.

    Breeder net fail??

So, I had several babies that were living in a breeder net for a couple weeks. Today after I had added a new fish, there's only one baby left in the net. Meaning the rest either escaped or died. But I didn't think they were small enough to fit through the holes for that to happen. I don't...

How do you clean a tank that hasn't been cleaned in a while?

I've decided that I wanted to help out with my parent's turtle tank. However, I'm afraid that with me doing newly frequent water changes it could harm them. For context, the tank has turtles and goldfish. Which will go into a pond eventually, but it's a big project. I don't want to harm them by...

That must suck for water changes.

    A poll for aquarium lids

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most aquascapes are lidless. I feel like anything could jump/climb out if they really wanted to in a lidless tank. Personally, I think lidless is risky because you already have animals that can escape through the filter intake and now the whole upper tank area is...

    Snail death

Idk it's just a river snail. I doubt it was water quality because everything else in the tank is fine and he does changes regularly, but I'd have to test to know for sure. Not fish medications, none of them are sick so nothing was used. The tank doesn't have plant fertilizer. And I don't think...

    Snail death

So, a snail in my dad's tank died. It's been there for at least a year, I don't remember. However exact age is unknown since it was a river snail. I think that most likely one of the other fish ate it, but he insists it was old age. I highly doubt that because that's his go to whenever...

    A poll for aquarium lids

Multiple options for those with multiple tank syndrome. For example, you might have a tank without a lid because the stocking doesn't jump, and a lid on a tank that does.

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

Because then I have to continuously pour and refill in small amounts. With a siphon that process would be automatic. Technically then I wouldn't even need a siphon, by your method I could just remove water with a ladle too.

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

I don't want another siphon; I have a smaller one cause it's easy storage.

Just got some freshwater clams from the lake

I could just leave this forum if I'm not welcome and getting insults instead. I do have a disorder that might be the reason why I'm so confused about this, because I have no idea what I did to have people call me rude and say I'm not following advice. The only times I don't follow advice is...

Just got some freshwater clams from the lake

I do listen! Do you know how many changes I've made to my aquarium because of this forum? Just sometimes resources aren't available to me because I have to get stuff through my parents. If I didn't care I wouldn't be here.

Just got some freshwater clams from the lake

I'm not bothered. I'm just saying it's possible in other circumstances, why not here? Just because I point out something doesn't mean I won't do it.

Also, I've heard that clams don't even get diseases, so there's no risk.

Just got some freshwater clams from the lake

Why not?? In the reptile world, those pet owners never have to clean waste. There are bugs that clean for them. I don't understand why it can't be that way in the fishkeeping world. Why there isn't some aquatic animal that can added to replace fish tank maintenance. I already know to keep my...

Just got some freshwater clams from the lake

Yes, I have some pretty stubborn algae growth that I've heard they can help with. I've already tried limiting my lightening and wiping it off to combat it. I've added wild snails, so I don't think it's an issue.

Just got some freshwater clams from the lake

I don't know much about them, but I do know that they're basically bulletproof cleaners like snails. I am acclimating them just in case. I've heard that they won't die except when opened, and that their cleaning abilities could even replace the need for having a filter. So, I'm excited. But I'm...

How do you take fish out without putting water in tank?

Avoid potential harm? What harm would there be in using a net for fish? No aquatic pet would fall through the net except maybe newborn fry.

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

No, I don't want to buy another siphon. I wanted to know if this will work with my current siphon.
  28. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

The tube wasn't lifted out, only the wide part of the siphon was to be lifted up and down. Doing that only gave me bubbles. The tube end was firmly attached and submerged inside the tank.
  29. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

I just bought this siphon; I don't want to get another one. I wanted to know if it was possible with the one, I currently have. Plus, I didn't want a bigger siphon because the smaller ones are easier to store.
  30. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

That's what I ended up doing, but before that I wanted to test if the siphon could suck out the bucket water back into the tank for me. It didn't work. I didn't want to pour it in initially because the weight of the bucket is easy to spill.
  31. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

Yes, the tank end was attached in water. I had no reason to move that part.
  32. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

That's simple enough for you to say, but when I did that, it didn't work.
  33. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

Because I have a shorter siphon, it's not long enough to connect directly to the sink and reach the tank. I can't use a hose either because that's also too far.
  34. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

It should've worked, but it didn't.
  35. V

Is there a way to reverse siphon- using it to add water?

I know that siphoning removes water and cleans out waste from under the gravel. But in water change, you have to replace the water. However, I haven't gotten it to flow the opposite way. With a bucket of clean water, I placed the siphon in headfirst and the plastic pipe end into the tank. I...

Easy for you to say, but there's also a chance that they cycle might not work.
  38. V

Is it okay to add my betta during cycling?

Thanks for telling me I could do it temporarily, because my other tank has gravel, which wouldn't be great for this tank as it has sand, and I don't want to mix the two.
  39. V

Is it okay to add my betta during cycling?

I've had a little ammonia spike in the first week, and nothing since then. It's only week two, but my parents are getting impatient and telling me it should be fine for fish now. The only stocking will be that betta, but I don't want to put her life in danger. She was in a community tank but now...

How do you take fish out without putting water in tank?

I've seen in discussion that you shouldn't add store water to the tank when putting in new fish. I get it, but how would you do that? The net is too big to fit in the bag to only scoop the fish out. I don't understand how you would get the fish out without adding the water they come with. I'd...
