    40 G Bow restart

Yup I'm guilty of overstocking but I do lots of 5 gal water changes..the two angels haven't mated or laid any eggs but they seem to have bonded. That that black veiltail is the smallest of my 6 andels in terms of just body size but it has the longest fins. Angels are kinda odd in that when...

    Hydra in my tank.

Yup I ditto, ColinT's advice especially if you gonna spend $150 on 1 fish, I'll suspect that one really fancy goldfish. So you might as well wait and get your tank spic and span clean for your investment. When you do get it please post a pic ,would luv to see the type you got.

    Net Cover Crisis

Simple answer...kinda...take pictures, get the inside measurements...go to a local TapPlastics store or web site. and get some acrylic for tank cover. While you can use the web site to get custom covers made. I found it cheaper to walk in to the store and ask for advice. The stores are great...

Aggressive dangerous dog in my neighborhood.

I think your vet has good advice, maybe the vet even knows the owners and can intercede for you. Ultimately you can escalate if going the good neighbor route doesn't work..you do have Animal control an dlocal law enforcement too. But what ever road you take, please document everything, a who...

Back After 15 Years - My New Tank

Hey ITViking, in your earlier post you mentions your LFS advocating "pads" can you explain exactly what is meant by pads? is it an activated charcoal filter cartridge or something like the Seashem's Perigen packs?

    40 G Bow restart

CV/SIP allows many, time to do things...among my aquarium "do things" was relocation of fish. My first tank upon re-entry into fish keeping was a 40 Bowfront. It went through various occupants. The last few years it contained a dempsey, pleco, t-barb, salvini and syndontis cat. Ultimately I...

55 gallon almost fully stocked... recommendations?

Hey Colin I like the Aussie idea of tanks by the foot....much cheaper than tanks by the gallon, a 55 g is about 4 ft long. BTW I never knew about fish TB....now you given me another psychosis to worry about, as if CV wasn't enuff..... LOL
  12. D

    Is found driftwood safe?

Seems to me it's perfectly safe... but being extra cautious can't hurt... there all kinds of ways to kill off any hitch hikers, algae. spores etc...maybe something as simple as baking in a oven, to soaking in a bleach solution, etc...my caution in using any chemical to disinfect to is to do a...

    Anyone play airsoft here?

Most excellent point but sometimes one has to just express...keeping silent is not always an option...just look at history...still lets get back to arguing the merits of Dempsey vs Salvini cichlids...LOL

    Anyone play airsoft here?

So if I get this right Airsoft is a kinder/gentler version of Paint ball. But I gotta offer a word of advice for those here in the States.....DO NOT walk the streets carrying these, especially if one is a person of color....PS please don't go ranting about your rights to bear arms Rights won't...

55 gallon almost fully stocked... recommendations?

This thread brings up a great question - Does anybody plan on tank succession. In that what if one get tired of the fish they have in a tank...what do to with the current occupants? My new 100 g was set up with the idea of providing a new more spacious home...but I were to go a different route...

    MY 55 gal rebuild

And speaking /dreaming of which how cool would it be to add to the 40 breeder/terrarium a miniature snake or tree frogs...is there any such thing as an easy to care for "miniature" snake say adult size of 10 inches or so....LOL
  17. D

    MY 55 gal rebuild

And course now that I got the 55 done...I've an itch to try the same thing with a 40 gal breeder tank...of course I have to first find the space in my man cave/fish-storage-guest room.... LOL

    MY 55 gal rebuild

Yup...the center fractured and broke. I used a 24 inch gripper bar to squeeze the front and back glass together. That enabled me to cement the center bar back together as well as using acrylic bars to support the center. That being said I don't trust the repairs against fully loading the tank...

    Bad place.....fishes cruelty

Yup that's often the case but it get's bad when we lust after those >100 g tanks....as a fish nerd who doesn't lust after a 200 gal or larger after we satisfy the 100 g itch. On a lighter side of things "monster fish" like gars and sturgeons can become a last ditch meal, especial after the...

The life of a 20 gallon Quarantine Tank

The life of a 20 gallon Quarantine Tank

Now wiay a minute I thought the 20 gal was a quarantine tank? your GT tank makes me feel like a slkum loard LOL I just use a Costco tub, box filter and heater LOL...no gravel no plants no nothing...just like some of our overpriced San Francisco apartments

    MY 55 gal rebuild

I had a center bar failure, after a repair I converted the tank into an aquarium/terrarium combo. Following discovery of Paludariums I gave thought to whole hogging it and going that route....but common sense dictated a simpler approach as a first try. A good thing too, as I soon became a...

    Bad place.....fishes cruelty

What a interesting thread...but I gotta wonder with all this voicing of opinions some reasoned and some not so reasoned...what are we willing to do to about about cruelty?. How many of us are in a position to rescue that 13" gar. Maybe as passionate Fish Nerds we need to do a better job of...

    Bad place.....fishes cruelty

Yup a 13" gar in a 30 gal is not the way to go...but hey who hasn't made the mistake of buying a without proper knowledge....At a local LFS I've seen baby fish for sale that would not be suitable as they grew up...Again not everybody is a FishNerd. And this is not restricted to Fish...

    Bad place.....fishes cruelty

On flip side you gotta hand it to the owners to have gotten the fish to that size. I'm pretty sure they didn't start out that size. Not everybody is a fish nerd, for 50 bucks if I lived in Cin. I might consider taking it off their hands and using the fish in an outdoor pond.
  28. D

    Bad place.....fishes cruelty

Just my 2 cents but this is a business and the fish are there to be sold. So maybe we need to step back a bit. Before outright indignation and condemnation. Just looking at the the pics presented the fish look to be in good shape. Isn't it possible that the overloaded bags will end up at a...

    Mentoring kids on aquarium keeping

Hey eatyopurpeas...you got the best resource in your daughter...she's a teacher! She has all the experience you can possible use and lean on in getting your community/kids engaged. Mentoring kids on aquarium keeping

Eatyourpeas - you got a great idea and think it's awesome that you want to engage your community. Hey no worries and I can sympathise it's hard talking to those who may be older, heck I never talked to my parents, when I was at your age. And no need to apologize I just wanted to get some clarification before sounding off and offering my 2 cents. Take care and good luck with your own tanks.

What a great variety of answers from those who like the newest of tehc bluetoothm smart phont apps etc...to dufferd like me who prefer the KIS methof a cheap simple dial timer for me....like I need yet another app on my phone.... :hyper:
  33. D

    He messed up :(

Simple question why are you concerned? if it's the welfare of the fish you can only make suggestions in a kind way or offer to buy the fish and house it yourself. BTW you don't mention it's current size. For all we know it may be just 1" inch long. I commend you for your observations but why...
