I disagree with the shallow water thing. usually betta fish are upper dwellers, and with the right decor (my bettas at least) tend to thrive. :) Just my outlook.

the only thing you don't understand is the concept that these fish are still fish and will always be fish from different parts of the world, and let's face it, not everywhere is the same, think of it like putting your betta fish in saltwater. they didn't evolve to be there.

for 15 gallons the swordtails and platys will eventually outgrow the tank, reaching almost 4in in length. just to throw it out there. a wise man once said, esta un poco sobreabastecido. (it's a little overstocked) just my perspective :)

I probably should keep my mouth shut but, for 3 months now I've had a 20 long running with a male alien betta and a female betta with some pygmy cories. it depends on the betta! also what size tank and what are your params.:)
