I trust my local petco for their plants. I've never had any pests whatsoever. Usually, they offer nonwater acclimated plants.(plants in containers) if you are really worried think about how a pest or parasite can live while not touching water for a long time.

you could do a betta tank with pygmy corydoras. ok and hear me out on this, you could maybe have a dwarf gourami in a space like that with some sorta bottom dweller. I've personally never tried a DG in a 10 gal but it might work.

wow, that is sad to look at. at this point, it's not really improving, and treating him may stress him out. I think if you made his life comfy and keep up with the water parameters he will live out his days as a happy guy. if his condition worsens to a great extent then there will be issues...

it gets messy when the tank is full from equipment splashes and whatnot. and if you have a lid-less tank fish are more likely to take their last jump if you know what I mean.

I wouldn't worry too much unless there's a colony of worms, some worms are a natural part of an ecosystem and arent harmful. thanks for not using bleach or any "cleaner" a lot of folks kill their whole aquarium that way. and did they look like detritus worms? they eat fish waste and plant matter...
