    Hello!

Been there, done that, bought the T shirt. That ship has long since sailed for me. I would rather keep a shoal of 1000 cardinal tetras that an Asian aro anyday.

    Hello!

MFK, monster fish keepers. It is a site for, shall we say, the ''less discerning'' fish keeper. I have been there for 15 years even though I don't keep large or aggressive fish anymore. As I grow older I appreciate more the zen of a peaceful community.

65F - 20C, any tropical fish can live in that temperature?

Look into the fish that are native to Uruguay. Gymnogeophagus, Austoloheros, Crenicichla, Apistograma etc.....

Ocean mystery as massive 45kg bright orange fish washes up on isolated US beach

That is an Opa. I've seen them caught on tuna charters. They fight like a giant piece of plywood. They are also delicious.

Difference between Neon tetras and Cardinal Tetras?

Oh man, you are killing me :rofl:. We can't escape you. Cardinals are a bit more sensitive to water hardness and quality. I find neons to be a bit more tolerant and hardy, but that's just my opinion and experience. Oh yeah, cardinals are about double the price at my LFS.

looking for 4 more species of plants :)

I started it in a high tech, high light tank until it got waaayyy out of hand, at which point I planted it in a low tech, medium light 120 gal SA community, where it is thriving with a root tab once a month, per plant.

    Stocking ideas for 40 gallon

I would try to keep them all from the same general region. If you want an angelfish as a centerpiece, then the tetras are goood, along with some corydoras (bottom dweller) and say, a BN pleco. I keep mesonauta mirificus (festivum) with a school of black neons. I find them to be a bit more...

Sterbai Cory's and Lake Malawi Cichlids?

Not a good mix at all. Go for some species of synodontis cat that can thrive in the same water conditions as the Malawis. There are so many cool species to choose from.

    Plant Recommendations?

Rotala rotundifolia. I always recommend rotala rotundifolia. Easy to grow, no need for C02 and intense lighting, and if properly maintained, not too messy.

Can I keep Cory with small gravel?

Just fine. Sterbai are on the smaller side as far as corydoras go (as far as the species that I have kept), so there isn't a lot of moving around of the substrate. Their barbels are intact and healthy looking. That being said it is densely planted with a thick carpet of monte carlo and...

Can I keep Cory with small gravel?

I have a small posse of c. sterbai in a densely planted tank with eco complete substrate, and have had zero issues. They have been thriving for over a year.

    Hi there, I am Rob....

My name is Rob and I live in Laguna Beach CA. I have been a fish keeper off and on for 40 years, but consistently for the past 15 years. I only keep fish from South and Central America. Right now I have a 35 gal high tech planted cube, an 18gal low tech planted platy nursery, and a 120 gal low...
