First fish tank urgent advice please

Yes, the seller is correct. It is a 200 litre tank. It looks as though you have Malawi Cichlids in there. They 100% do need heated water, the temperature should be between 24c - 27c. When adding the heater, just increase the temperature slowly over a few days to the desired temperature. In...

Haha I hear you. Seriouslyfish is your best friend when deciding on the right fish.

    180l for Malawi Cichlids

I’d say it is too small for Malawi cichlids. If you have soft water, you could consider keeping dwarf cichlids. Or if you have hard water check out shell dwellers from Lake Tanganyika.

Considering Cichlids for the first time

If your filtration is ‘over powered’ for the size of your tank, which is what’s recommended for keeping African cichlids, I’d be comfortable with 30% - 50% water changes. Keep an eye on the nitrates and if they are higher that they should be, increase the water change %. I’ve read on...

Considering Cichlids for the first time

I'd love to do 75% water changes, but i just don't have the space to store that much water and heat it beforehand.

Considering Cichlids for the first time

You'll certainly be looking to carry out 30%-50% water changes once a week to maintain good water quality. That's with very good filtration. If you're going for standard filtration for the size of the tank, then I'd recommend carrying out more frequent water changes. It all depends on what fish...

Considering Cichlids for the first time

Take a look at Cyprichromis leptosoma. https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/cyprichromis-leptosoma/ From what I've read it fits your profile perfectly.

Considering Cichlids for the first time

I have been researching African Cichlids for the last 3 months, in preparation for setting up my own tank. By no means do I have all the answers and I'm not experienced with cichlids in the slightest. But the information is still fresh in my memory. Depending on the type of species you're...

    Lake Tanganyika 240 Litre Aquarium

Today I managed to get around to emptying the tank and giving it a really good clean all over. I then put some plastic mesh onto the bottom of the glass so that the rocks don't scratch it. I then added the slate and large pebbles. I soon realised that what looked like a lot of rock, really...

The black sand has arrived today, that was really fast. I was expecting it on Monday. My two custom caves have been built, the supplier is just waiting for the silicone to set and then posting them to me. These caves are specifically for the Julidochromis Ornatus and the small gap on top is...

The tank is cycled, it has been running since April this year. Until a couple of days ago it was home to a tropical community. I've left the water in and everything running as usual. I'm going to empty the water, add the hardscape and then refill it. I will check the water parameters before...

    Lake Tanganyika 240 Litre Aquarium

I have managed to buy my rocks/cave system today. I found slate which was my first choice as it'll be really easy to stack and create nice clean straight lines. I found it for £1.99 a kg, which is far cheaper than I've found it online. I have also picked up 4 really nice large white pebbles with...

Lake Tanganyika 240 Litre Aquarium I am currently in the process of setting up a Lake Tanganyikan aquarium. I have always kept freshwater tropical fish, mainly community tanks, a Betta sorority and some species only tanks. I have always wanted to set up an African Cichlid tank, but due to...

Great stuff, thanks Colin. After countless hours of trying to find the info myself, you've answered them all for me. One last question before I let you go haha. Below is the layout that I'd like to go for, just with more rocks on either side. Would this set up suit all 3 of the fish? I think...
