That sounds like some sci-fi horror movie stuff. Betta are so colorful and have such variety with fins already. I’ve even seen females with nice colors.

Do you know anyone with a healthy tank that can spare some filter media? I’ve used this method to seed new tanks by cutting off portions from my sponge filters in my large tank and putting them in the back of the HOBS of my betta tanks.

Glofish are genetically engineered right? It’s actually terrible how they are treated, I’ve seen the video of how they are shipped in what looks like a cut snack sized baggie bed twisted on the end. It’s plain animal abuse.

You had to point it out for me, so thats a very nice blend of artificial and real you have there! I guess one benefit of combining both is achieving the look of a heavily planted tank if you can only keep two things alive like me. I have no green thumbs, or fish tank thumbs, at all.

This poses an interesting question, because when I first started in the hobby I had nothing but fake decor and plants in my tank and (until I learned to stop buying livestock from petsmart) my fish seemed to do just fine with regular water changes and scheduled feeding. I wonder why that is?
