    Bleach Use in Aquariums

Well unless we all are believers in homeopathy, anything is safe if we rinse it enough times. No point in taking risks though. So we avoid bleach when it's not needed and use fish only buckets because we realise we are too lazy to rinse adequately.

Rate My stocking idea (cuz i'm confused and bored)

The gH is only 6. Unless the kH happens to be as high or higher than this also, I suspect the pH of the established tank will be slightly acid.

    Ammonia issues

If you're enough of a geek you make a spreadsheet to track the numbers :P Today I went as far as googling to find out how to make an excel line graph that automatically updates .

I would maybe do 2 less otos (food issues), and a load more of the tetra type things to make the apistos feel secure

    Baby Betta Help

Did you read the link to a sticky post too? Cycling will not take 12 hours unless you have a lot of plants that haven't died in the 12 hours and a small amount of fish. The fish will be producing ammonia, so you are the position of doing a fish-in cycle. If the petstore sold you a bottle of...

    Baby Betta Help

My guess is the main issue causing the hiding is partly lack of other places to hide and partly too much flow from the filter. But soon you will have much bigger issues than that if you do not follow the advice in post #2

My sister’s betta-Will hopefully post post progress

Lots of water changing is always good ;) After that story I was expecting the fish took much less healthy, maybe your sister was forgetting to feed him quite often which while not necessarily a good thing thing long term, maybe the ammonia was kept down; the "tank" may well be cycled, but will...

20 G tank overstocked? Or more?

I think it will come down too what you find out your tank can biologically cope with, how fast the babies grow, what the gender mix is, whether they are stressed by overcrowding, enjoying the company of a shoal. Perhaps someone who has had reproducing Mollies in a similar situation might have...

    Missing Shrimp

this.... I added 9 yellow shrimp 6 or more months ago and didn't see any more than one or two at time for weeks or even months. Last month or two I usually count 7 or 8, one time 12 in total, goodness knows how many I have that are hiding. I see two berried females often enough that I suspect...

20 G tank overstocked? Or more?

Haha ye. In this case whether you get away with overstocking isn't the issue, as you will soon be overstocked either way. Beautiful as they are it's one of the things that put me off about livebearers. edit: the overstocking will be gradual though, so your system will be able to catch up with...

    Corydoras unknown death

If you start to find all the testing boring that will be a good thing because if the results are not interesting to you the water is probably good for the fish.

    Cycling new tank

I would test the water first to see what you starting at. As you have Dr Tim's ammonia and stuff, I would follow the instructions to dose with correct amount of ammonia and the bottled bacteria (I am not familiar with the product). 24 hours later test the water again. If you are lucky the sponge...

    Ram

Hanging around by filter outlet sounds like ammonia or nitrite issues. 25ppm nitrate will kill your fish only very slowly, in the bad old days all the books suggested 40ppm was your aim and water changes were necessary at 80 or even more.

    Betta chunk missing please help!

Totally agree with you so only arguing because that is how I (and I suspect you) think. :) From the sellers POV they will more than likely lose a sale if they ask too many "annoying" questions and the buyer might just go and spend at the (worse) seller across town who asks no questions and has...

    Ammonia Spiking!

What is the ppm of ammonia in the water? You may have seen on youtube that people with wells do not need to worry about dechlorinator. In your case you will need prime (or equivalent) to temporarily detoxify the ammonia in any water added to the tank until the plants or the beneficial can deal...

    Ram

Combination of of temperature, nitrates and general pollution (if 25ppm was a normal and regular level I mean). In my limited experience Rams are sensitive to everything. The gH seems fine, though I expect Rams like it even lower where possible. pH seems a little high; maybe the water company...

    Nerite snail advice

As far as I know there's probably not much to be done about the shell. It's usually caused by too low a pH I think. But chances are if your pH is acidic is likely just right for the other livestock.

    Rummies and Betta

Do you know your water hardness? I would be thinking about Ember Tetra if the water is soft, anything much larger will usually have a two foot footprint suggested. Some sites suggest 3 or 4 Pea Puffers for a 10 gallon, some would suggest a larger group, but also larger tank. There are a few...

    Rummies and Betta

The bioload is fine imo; though not necessarily guidline wise Guess it depends how well the female behaves herself, and you may be wanting to baffle the flow of the "powerful" filter for her benefit Only issue I see other than that is it looks like the dimensions are too small for rummy nose...

    High end Ritz guppies...

My water just 4dH according to welsh water and anything between 0 and 6 drops when my colour blind eyes test with a bottle. So much so that I'm worried my honey gourami turn out to be thick lipped which I believe are lake Inle which is medium hardness, so I'm worried im too soft

    High end Ritz guppies...

Much as I was glad when I found out my water was soft.... I suppose it wouldn't have been a disaster to have to keep guppies instead (I'm on the fence about altering gH, but even if I decide its an amazing idea I'm far too cheap and lazy to actually do it).

New to aquarium keeping, looking for advice

afaik clown loaches need a 6 foot by 2 foot footprint as they can reach a foot long, so the 60gallon will need to be less than a foot in height, and realistically 2 foot tall is wanted which would be a 180. And the volume would be needed because 6 fully grown clown loach are a lot of fish in...

    Tank revamp

A lot of people think sand is nicer for substrate dwellers as they often snuffle and sift it for food, as a result all the old food and poo is shoved back into the water for a a while and eventually sucked into the filter. Some people say sand should be gravel cleaned by getting the knack of...

    Ammonia Spiking!

If there are fish in the tank you need to do a massive water change now, perhaps 3 in a row. Cutting that ammonia level by just 50% will not help, as it looks off the scale, you will need to do serial dilutions until you measure ammonia at nearly zero. How often do you water change and by how...
