    ADA 60F low tech

I like what you did with the scape, definitely a challenging size to work with, but looking very cool. The substrate especially is neat, I particularly like the color contrast with the front substrate and the rocks.

    Aquarium quality.

Ah, great question! Something I have been wondering myself. I would say the answer is yes, but I can't point to specific brands or manufacturers unfortunately. I think in addition to the quality of seams and workmanship, the type of glass matters. For example, "low iron" glass I believe is more...

Nice job removing a potentially invasive species from the wild! He's also probably happier in a more stable home :) How does your blood parrot get along with everyone?

30 gallon long new tank for warm water fish. Help!

I personally have 10 Black skirt tetras in quarantine right now, when they get moved to the 125 we will probably get 7 sterbais, and then after that probably another type of tetra, and then maybe blood parrot cichlids or firemouths. Kind of deciding as we go depending how everything starts to...

    Complete cycle?

There are situations where if the stocking is low (as with a fish-in cycle) and there are plants in the tank that nitrates are not always necessarily measurable. As your stock increases, your nitrates will likely rise higher between water changes

    Complete cycle?

I would give it at least two weeks to make sure everything is stable and that you're not getting pH creep and your nitrates stay manageable. What else are you planning on adding? How big is the tank again?

    Complete cycle?

Beautiful tank! Based on the information, I would say that you're at least nearing completion :) in general, once you have three days of 0ammonia and 0nitrites, you can consider yourself to be pretty much done :)

30 gallon long new tank for warm water fish. Help!

I would be careful to not overstock the tank, but what @Naughts suggested sounds reasonable to me, with the caveat that I'm not very familiar with these species. I am personally planning on getting some sterbais for my tank as well since they will be able to tolerate my parameters (relatively...

My once terrible tank has settled nicely

Wonderful! What is that wispy looking plant that might on first glance be reminescent of hornwort?
  15. M

    Complete cycle?

Do you have plants in your tank? Just want to make sure since I would be expecting to see more nitrates if your cycle was complete, but if you have fast growing plants they could be taking up nitrate, decreasing the total amount you are reading.

could you post some pictures and information about your tank? I think suggestions will be much more on-base if we understand what you are working with.

    leveling a 125 gallon tank

I just briefly discussed this with hubby, and he was thinking shimming the tank to make up for the existence of any tack strips in the rear would be preferable from the "kids in small spaces" as well as the aesthetic perspective. I'm not sure if that's feasible with this stand though?

    leveling a 125 gallon tank

Thanks @mrsjoannh13 and @eatyourpeas ! I definitely considered the tack strip, and I actually observed what we had in other rooms when we converted to hardwood. On our stairs, which we left as carpet, I can feel the tack strip underfoot when I push with my foot by the edge of the wall, but I...

    leveling a 125 gallon tank

Hi Everyone, finally got the 125 set up and leak tested, and though it was level on the stand empty, uneven compression in the carpet showed the ugly reality. I have a ton of pictures and a video below since I can't have you guys show up in my living room and take a look, but here's some...

Help!!! Ammonia stuck at same spot during cycle

So yeah you have a choice based on what we have learned since yesterday. You can take a breather for a few days, do nothing, and re-test in three days, or you can clean the tank, do a water change and see where that puts you. Looking at your pictures, I am personally inclined to "do nothing"...

    Starting fresh.

Super exciting! Lady at PetSmart had a similar reaction when I bought 10 Black skirt tetras (which I didn't think was that many to be honest). She asked me how big my tank was and I told her they're quarantining in a 20g but living in a 125 and she went "oooOOOOooooo" ok lady lol. How's the...

Balancing pH and N in planted tank

This is a good bit of info to know, it's something I did not expect to see with my water parameters (high pH relatively high GH), so I definitely know to keep an eye on it now! Thanks!

Help!!! Ammonia stuck at same spot during cycle

Hi, yeah sorry I needed to go to sleep ? If you tested without using water conditioner, it is correct that you would have tested for 0 ammonia. Most tests will not read chloramine, so if you want to test to see if you have chloramine, you can test a tap water sample after dechlorinating it. I...

Help!!! Ammonia stuck at same spot during cycle

Yeah go ahead and test all three from the tap. Then, assuming your tap water results are reasonable (0,0,<10), this is what I would do: 1) do a gravel vacuum to get all the rotting stuff out of your tank 2) do a 100% water change, and test 30min later. Ammonia should read up to 0.25 due to...

Help!!! Ammonia stuck at same spot during cycle

Yeah do it without dechlorinator. Honestly, if you are seeing all three (and make sure your tap water doesn't have nitrates), it sounds like your cycle is practically done. I think what's going on is you have so much fish food in there that it's producing more bioload than your tank can handle...

Help!!! Ammonia stuck at same spot during cycle

Ask the LFS for the numbers, or watch them do it. Go ahead an test your tap water, doesn't need to be dechlorinated, but it should read a little ammonia after you dechlorinate it if you have chloramine in your tap water. That's why I suggested also testing a sample of bottled water, if you...
