    Does the Fish Fit?

Can do! Think the tank is 30x12x18 inches, which should be the same footprint as a 20 long, just taller, in case that helps picture it. Will upload a photo as soon as it's dark out to limit reflections. Thanks for your interest!

    Does the Fish Fit?

Hey y'all! So, as might be seen on my journal thread, I have a 29 gallon I need to stock. Since I have so many questions about some fish that interest me, I thought it would be simpler to start a new thread focused on the fish instead of the tank's progress. Scaped with pool filter sand and itty...

What should I pick for a centerpiece fish

Quick question because I am still newer to this hobby: but would you recommend Thrive? I was interested in buying some, and can't decide which particular type as there are four different options that all look similar. Also, how hardy would you say the chili rasboras are? I've read conflicting...

What should I pick for a centerpiece fish

Like I said, I am not an expert, just coming up with ideas. :) I don't see why they shouldn't get along with the embers, but I suppose more research about the chilis would be a good idea. I am excited to see what you choose!

What should I pick for a centerpiece fish

That sounds like an awesome tank! I'm sure many of us would love to see a pic! I'm not a complete expert when it comes to picking fish as I am still learning, so I may be wrong with this suggestion, but have you considered electric blue acara? They aren't huge, but would definitely be bigger...

Vote Now! - September 2022 Tank of the Month Contest (16 US Gal & Smaller)

This is my 10 gal tank, which grows hair algae wonderfully! It has just reached it's 1 year set up anniversary, but the substrate was swapped a few weeks ago. Sorry for the horrible reflections, was too lazy to pull down the blinds. No fish currently living in it, but that leaves lots of room...

    Combining tanks

Love the idea of a more complete sorority! Just be careful about adding new female bettas, as the two you already have may not like the idea of newbies stepping into their territory. I tried a sorority last year, and the initial five I had got along fine, but after an accident happened and I...

    Combining tanks

I agree with you about the gouramis, I'd also rehome the angelfish too, as it wouldn't play nicely with your bettas. Sorry, don't know how else to help out.

    Different wood items

Not completely sure if this is the right spot for this thread, but decided it would do. Now, when I first started out into the fish keeping hobby, I had no idea you could put things like driftwood, alder cones and indian almond leaves into your tank! I really love them now, but would like to...

    Aspirations for a 29gal tall.

I am so sorry for never uploading a new pic! I have been too lazy to close all the windows necessary to get a good picture. :) Both of the SAEs are okay and doing well from the transition. Oddly though, I never did find that other BNP. It's just gone. Disappeared. Poof. Same for the one tetra I...

    ppm to dGh?

Ahh, thanks so much! I find this kind of information very important, and am glad to now know it.

    ppm to dGh?

Hello! So, my test strips read in ppm, but all the websites I look at when l do research on fish give the GH and KH in the dGH and dKH form. Can anyone advise on how to swap one on to the other? Hope that made sense, because I kinda questioned my wording choices. Thanks!

Do I just give up at this point

But also, NEVER give up on something you love, whether it's all of fish keeping or just the platties that you have taken under your care and responsibility. Never give up on them.

Do I just give up at this point

You have no idea how much I understand about losing fish and just wanting to walk away from it all! I've been stuck in this depressing fix for the last few months as well. When I first started fish keeping, it was a 5 gal, with fake plants, a male betta from Petsmart, and I often forgot to...

    Crypts Falling Apart

I feel so much better now! I was so worried I was somehow killing all the plants that I have! I don't have any fertilizers or root tabs, do I'll see if I can order some soon! Thanks to the both of you!

    Crypts Falling Apart

Hey everyone! So, even though I have planted tanks, my knowledge is rather limited when it comes to plant care. I just changed my substrate, and my crypts just aren't adjusting well. Before, they were in a really fine sand, and now the substrate is a slightly coarser pool sand. So I don't see...

Video Peacock Gudgeon Fry At Feeding Time

I think it was the strong current in the 29 gal that I had to put her in for a while that stressed her out. But yes, I completely tore down the 10 gal last weekend and changed the sand out for new sand. The sand that was originally in there was turning dark gray around the seiryu stone I had in...

Video Peacock Gudgeon Fry At Feeding Time

I am plagued by crypts, and I have java ferns. My Betta has always looked malnourished, she just kinda came from Petco (I plan to never shop there again) that way. She was doing fine for the first 4-5 months, and then due to a tank housing situation, I tried moving her to my 29 gal, where the...

Video Peacock Gudgeon Fry At Feeding Time

I have nothing in the tank right now, it's empty. My Betta is supposed to be living in there, but had been sickly on and off for the last 4 ish months, and might just live out the rest of her days in the hospital tank. I won't be getting any fish though until I know for sure the Betta's living...

Welcome! Those tanks sound awesome! I've been thinking about getting a krib for my 29 gal as a centerpiece. Would you recommend it to someone with two years of being in the hobby?

Tank Tests OK But Something Not Right?

Kind of a side note, not really that important, but I noticed that it looks like two of your "neons" look like they might actually be cardinal tetras.

    Shrimp Essentials

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I hope to try again soon, now that I have made some adjustments to my tank, like taking out the seiryu stone and hopefully will replace it with driftwood. I appreciate all of this feedback!

Stocking Recommendation to go with Ember Tetras in 9G Fluval Flex

Maybe some shrimp? Honestly, if you were to follow the 1 inch of fish per gallon rule, I don't think I would add any more fish after getting more tetras. But shrimp have a very small bioload, and would make good tankmates for the tetras I should think.

Just spent the entire day working on switching the substrate! This was my first time doing something like this, and I didn't realize how hard it can be! @Byron, the sand isn't white, it is more of a beige. I'll post a pic update once the water clears up. It took forever to get the few fish...

    New hobbyist need help

Umm, I think connerlindeman was referencing the water conditioner that you put in your tank water to take the chlorine out and keep it safe for fish, not the substrate you are using.

    New hobbyist need help

With my first tank, (a five gallon) I cycled and everything the way I was supposed to too. Despite following procedure, I still went through a ton of neon tetras. (I know now that tetras are too active for a five gallon, but I didn't know at the time, pls forgive). An employee eventually told me...

Awesome! I considered pygmies (they are so cute!), but figured I could always put them in my 10 gal one day when my betta moves out. But now I can reconsider them for this tank! I'll post the parems once I have swapped the substrate, make sure nothing's really changed or anything. Usually...

I do already have wood in the tank for the plecs (and yes, I think they are both females seeing as they have no bristly mustaches), it just can't be seen because of all the plants. The substrate is going to be pool filter sand and small gravel used for water softeners. Yes, my SAE's are...
