    Cherry Barb ready to breed?

Thank you all for replying! I truly appreciate it. Now that I know that they are ready to breed, what should be my course of action? Do I remove them to somewhere they can spawn? And on that note, is there a way to help trigger the spawning? I've never bred or raised fish before so I'm full of...

    Cherry Barb ready to breed?

Hey y'all! I have 10 cherry barbs in my 29 gallon tank. 1:1 ratio males to females. The males don't settle down, constantly chasing the girls, which I wonder is a sign that they're ready to spawn? The females look a little plump, but not outrageously so. They are plump enough that instead of the...

    Blue-green algae

Thanks for everyone's thoughts so far! It is filtered with a simple sponge filter, and a pothos helps. I don't have the equipment to put an air stone near the affected areas unfortunately, though I liked the idea. I'm thinking about removing the portions of moss and doing a hydrogen peroxide...

    Blue-green algae

Yeah, I'm sure everyone is probably tired of hearing about another cyanobacteria problem, but my situation is a little different. So, I restarted the tank up in august, and went fishless till just a few weeks ago. All I have is a ton of plants and driftwood, as well as the new addition of...

Poor fish, that doesn't look to good. It would be very helpful if you could give the water parameters, and maybe a photo from the side. Personally, it looks like some kind of fungal growth.

    Scutariella Japonica?

I kinda think that white stuff looked like her eggs, but that might just be me. Also, I thought we are supposed to leave the molts in the tank, so that the shrimp can eat it and get back some nutrients found in the exoskeleton. I'm new to keeping shrimp, so I'm not an expert, just sharing what...

    Water changers

I use Hygger's version of a water changer. Same thing as Python, just cheaper. It hooks up to my bathroom faucet once I got the aerator off. Only used it once so far, but both me and my dad like it better than the 5 gallon buckets (which he always carried, not me, since I can't pick it up). The...

That is beautiful, @Essjay!!! I have tried cross-stitch before, but much simpler. I prefer embroidery. That is gorgeous, and you must give a picture when you are done!!

    Stinky aquarium

I boiled it before I first initially put it in the tank to help sterilize it some since I got it from my yard. For now I have currently done another water change (20%) and scrubbed the wood. It looks a lot better, and doesn't smell as much, making me think that the fungus might be the culprit...

    Stinky aquarium

Well, because of the fungus and an algae problem I was having (but it is under control now) I have been keeping up with 10% water changes everyish week. Hopefully the smell will go away soon.

    Stinky aquarium

Yep! My aquarium SMELLS! I'm not sure why though, and that's why I'm here asking y'all's opinion! It's a 10 gallon tank with no nitrates or ammonia. It has been fishless for over 3 months now, so I wouldn't think it's a rotting fish or snail or something like that. My maple wood that's in...

    Tell me something funny

Once had a conversation with my friends about trusting cat people (they're all dog people) and I asked "what about fish people?" I got some weird looks, and they just don't quite get it.

    Fungus on Driftwood

Believe me, it looks like wayyy grosser in person.... I have some shrimp to put in the tank, but am afraid if the stuff will kill them. Should I just chuck the wood to be better safe than sorry?

    Aspirations for a 29gal tall.

The tank is stocked!!! A few weeks ago, I finally got to go pick out some fish!' Im really happy with them, and how the tank has turned out in general. I went with 10 cherry barbs (5 males to 5 females) and a Bolivian ram. I've always read that cherries are really laid back for schooling fish...

    Fungus on Driftwood

Okay, I know I just recently discussed this, but I'm one to get a little paranoid, so I'm bringing it up again. I scrubbed the stuff off as was suggested, and it made the tank look so much better! BUT, it quickly grows back, like by 3 days you see signs of it again, and then it just keeps...

Awesome! Thank you so much for this advice! Yeah, painting is a hobby, but I wanted to keep it legal in case I did want to sell one day. Good advice for the use of references too! I am still learning, so mostly copying references, but I will try and mix it up to create my own thing (kinda hard...

When choosing reference photos, what do you do to keep it legal? I ask only because I have a painting in mind that would require using references, and I don't want to illegally use other peoples photos. Thanks so much for answering my questions!

    New to freshwater

I think a great place to start would be to review your water parameters, particularly the GH, KH, and PH. See if they match what your fish require. When you say that the nitrates were a "little high", how high exactly? Some exact numbers will be appreciated. The dead fish. Did you notice...

Please list all aquatic floaters you know of

I've heard of something called Fairy Moss or Azolla. Though called moss, it floated at the top in a way that resembled salvinia. It's really pretty, in my opinion. Never tried it, just seen pics.

    Most difficult fish to catch!

My Siamese Algae Eaters!!!! I have two, and I wanted to redo the substrate. Well, I had to take out everything to even get a chance! Even then, I was using a one gallon bucket to try and help and it still took like half an hour to catch just the two of them
