thanks folks, its an internal, think its just a cheap make though. it has a long pipe coming off the nozzle with small holes in it to slow down the water flow, as soon as i take this off it gets much quieter(its like its lost some power?). I also took the impeller out and gave it a clean.

hi, so y'day workers in my street caused a power cut and electric was off for 2 hours, when i got in i noticed the filter is now much louder than b4, it still seems to be working fine though, can i fix it make it quieter? or will i just buy a new 1 and transfer the old media? cheers

ok sorry for the late reply, everything was going gr8 i was doing water changer every otherday until 3 weeks ago as i had a 2 week holiday booked. i left strict instructions for a friend on how to test for ammonia then change water if necessary... i come home and have lost 3 platys and 5 neons...

also the filter pad(sponge) just looks like a scrumpled up sponge has been stuffed into the filter

ok gonna do a 50% water change now. i bought the tank with a few fish off a friend so thought everything would have been ok
