Ye they are super faded. How do you go about cleaning your filter? Idk if the cycle crashed because op said they tested the water and it came up fine. Maybe we could get the exact parameters?

Might leach over time, not to mention it would make everything far more difficult. I'm just saying it is highly impractical to do maintenance on a tank without using your hands, or covering them in thick gloves :).

Keeping your arm out of an aquarium is impossible after a certain amount of time. Eventually you are going to have to put your hand in, whether it be to adjust something, remove something in a hard to get spot, or even just re-decorate.

I would leave the wood. The film is microorgansims that will go away once the nutrients have been depleted in said wood. Scrubbing it would just get rid of the problem for like 2 days.

Hi! Don't have much to say when it comes to discus tank mates, but don't get siamese algae eaters, they are vicious and get surprisingly big. As for 30 cardinals in a 30 gallon, I'm really not sure, but I think you'd be better off at something around 20 long-term :).
